puresimmer -> Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (8/28/2009 3:14:54 PM)

Well I have today off so I have been coding all morning (actually started this feature last night) and I just finished a fun feature which will arrive with 1.84.

From the 1.84 release notes:

NEW! - When using historical players, there is now an option to import the players' real life stats achieved up to the initial season where PureSim is starting in history. This is useful if you want to start off with some prior history. These stats are treated just as if they were achieved in PureSim-simulated games, so they will be taken into account in career records, Hall of Fame decisions, etc...

So, for example, I started an association in 1960, and simmed one season, here is Koufax's player card (note how imported stats are colored as gray to make their origin clear.)

This is extremely cool.

This is great! Can't wait till I can try it out.

Consequently, in the first season of a newly-created association, would only true rookies be eligible for ROY awards?

Nukester -> RE: Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (8/28/2009 5:51:51 PM)

Thats awesome! I always hated that starting in 1903 players like Cy Young would start with no career stats, and the leaderboards would start out empty. This is one of my most wanted features for sure !

In my association Cy Young has just been released in September of 1907. He doesn't even get a chance to retire wearing a uniform. [:(] I wonder if starting with his career stats would've made a difference to the team, since it would have affected his career wins/losses/ERA, etc.

Will the previous statistics be reflected in all-time records with this feature on?

Yes.

I am REALLY excited about this, as we can start a real career association without having previous history being ignored. This feature has the potential to be a tremendous boon for us alternate history players.

This is AWESOME news!! I have been hoping for something like that option for years! Thank-you sir!!

I have the same question but very cool new feature (I might almost be tempted to play with real players again :-)

Yes.

Awesome. This really is a huge feature for me. I literally cannot start an association after 1903 because I need there to be a long history in place for me to enjoy the game when it gets to the modern era. And I'm always a little bored playing deadball because of the lack of homeruns.

Huge!

Looks like I'll be restarting once 1.84 is released.

Yes, only "true" rookies will be eligible.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (8/29/2009 10:29:47 PM)

what if you are importing players from different times ?

(I mean for me, I like my team, I like players I grew up with, and some of the ones here now, or then, so I like to grab them all and make a team out of them, will that work with this type of team ?)

The feature is completely optional.

33sherman -> RE: Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (9/2/2009 2:02:33 AM)

One more question: if I start an association in say, 1975, willl the all-time records only be a reflection of pre-1975 statistics from all CURRENT players in the association, or all-time? In other words, will Roger Maris have the single-season HR record, Aaron the all-time, etc.?

33sherman -> RE: Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (9/2/2009 2:32:52 AM)

Okay, it looks like it's just the previous statistics of players currently in the association. Not sure how possible it would be, but having statistics of retired players before the start year also included in all-time records would be neat.

Also, haven't played since 1.76 or so. I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the cosmetic changes look amazing.

KG Erwin -> RE: Cool new feature coming in 1.84 (9/2/2009 2:39:34 AM)

For the purposes of the game, only current active players in PS terms are considered. I would assume that once these players retire, their records would still be included in the Almanac.

Oh yeah, I think the records would still be included, which is good. I'm just wondering if this feature could be tweaked to include ALL past statistics from players in the Lahman database, so that if you started an association in 1980, Cy Young would be the all-time wins leader, Ty Cobb would be the hits leader (for the time being), etc. Or if you started an association in 1955 Ruth would still be the single-season HR record-holder and you would move forward from that point. For example, I started an association in 1977 with this feature turned on, and Willie McCovey was the all-time HR leader with 465 (because he was still playing). But anyone already retired is not included (as far as I can tell).
