I ran through a season and when it was my turn to select in the draft I was unable to select players. I would select a player and the player agreed to terms then the only thing I could do was Finish/Complete Draft without being able to select any players. The player I did select was not on my roster but ended up in the Free Angent Pool. I am not sure if this is a bug or if I did something completely wrong.

Shaun,

Dumb question here :

I love the team relocation feature in this release, but does that also include automatically adding teams thru expansion in years they were added ??

Just thought I would ask !

No, but that will be something we are looking at adding.

Not really following you here. I just went through the ammy and free agent periods post 1979 and all seemed fine (I picked up 29yr old Jim Rice as a free agent but had to pay through the nose!). Can you help pinpoint in detail exactly what you were trying to do? Thanks.

prisonerno6 -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (8/31/2009 4:44:41 PM)

Just ran the 1981 Draft and everything worked perfectly. Obviously it was User Input Error!! Sorry for wasting your time. I truly apologize!!

On another note, I was wondering if anyone else is having low strikeout totals for their pitchers. Then again it just might be me once again.

I know this is probably asking for a lot. I'd like to see a player in a historic replay switch teams when traded on the proper date. I would like to see the season unfold a little more like it actually did. See if your managing makes a difference with the cards dealt the real manager of the team for that year.

I think it's a good idea. I know there are games like Diamond Mind and Strat that have this type of stuff, and I'd love to get the hardcore guys from those sims to try PureSim. I'll also need pitch-by-pitch managing and customizable play-by-play I know, but hey I can dream.

Yaz, you have the capability to do this, but you must click AI trades "off" and make all the moves manually. There are online resources (such as Retrosheet) that provide you with all of the player transactions for a given season.

Shaun, way ahead of you, been singing the praises of puresim to DMBers for several years now. I know I got at least a few guys playing it now. Here's the latest thread I have on the DMB forums, feel free to post there with puresim stuff anytime! puresim on the DMB forums

KG Erwin -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/1/2009 11:12:54 PM)

I simmed through part of the 2005 season, with 50-man rosters, and it seems that the AI groups its minor-leaguers into AAA and AA. Single A is virtually ignored. Thus, two or three 1B or SS or whatever are sometimes dumped into a level, which does no one any good.

It seems that the AI needs to be tweaked so that players are spaced out evenly between the minor-league levels. Perhaps 40-man rosters are the maximum, as 50-man rosters plainly overwhelm the existing assignment routines.

One example is the Padres, who had all 10 minor-league pitchers stacked into AAA. Very few teams had ANY players in single A.

I am beginning to think that the 50 or 60-man roster options for historical associations hould be eliminated. Restrict it to 35 or 40? Doing this would allow for a predominantly real-player FA pool to exist, depending on the time frame.

DonBraswell -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/2/2009 2:55:11 AM)

Bite your tongue KG. I like playing with 50 to 55 players. I feel like 40 does not give you enough subs for injuries.

Sorry, Don. You DO raise a good point here, but 50 does have its drawbacks. I hope we can eventually arrive at a happy medium.

Orcin -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/2/2009 4:18:00 AM)

Regarding improving the AI GM:

The AI will often demote a player to the minors, and then promote a player that is a free agent. However, the AI doesn't sign the free agent first. This leaves the major league roster at 24 players. I have several teams in my current league in this state, and at least one with only 23 players (only 9 pitchers). I have simmed several days without correction. I usually correct it myself via the "assign rosters" button, but it requires watching the deals/moves screen daily.

Orcin -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/3/2009 3:03:10 PM)

I have started a new league (replay_1946) with 1.84 BETA 2. Shaun is right about the AI being smarter on trades. My 1946 Cardinals have 3 HOF'ers: Musial, Slaughter, and Schoendienst. If I try to trade for the best players on another team, I get an offer for one of those three players. If I try to trade for a 21-year old Yogi Berra, I get "you have no players that we will trade for Yogi Berra". If I try to trade for another HOF'er, sometimes the AI will only accept Musial.

There is one exception to this: Joe Dimaggio. For some reason, the AI does not value him highly at all. I can trade any of my top 25-30 players for him, including some players that wouldn't make the Yankees' roster. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees begin to value Joe more like a true HOF'er after he has a few good years in pinstripes. Joe has a few good years left in the late 40's (he is only 31). However, he is the highest paid player in the league and is in the last year of his contract so maybe that has something to do with his low value. I cannot take advantage the Yankees desire to trade him because my Cardinals cannot afford Joe. His salary exceeds my available.

I will start a thread in the locker room about this league, but if I have any program issues I will post them here.

Check out the thread "Winning is Cool, but...". There is a good discussion about Joe DiMaggio and how the years he missed during WW2 affect his potential. I think if I were to start an association in 1946, I would edit Joe's potential to a higher number.

Orcin -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/3/2009 3:32:33 PM)

I did try editing Joe's potential to a higher number, but it had no effect on his trade value.

KG Erwin -> RE: PureSim 1.84 BETA 2 (9/3/2009 9:57:49 PM)

I restarted 1946, and Joe D's POT rating is 18. Thus, I was able to get him in a trade for Joe Medwick.
