BTW What is a Grognard??? ______________QUOTE__________________________ MikeM Matrix New Recruit posted November 01, 2000 04:52 PM I would like to hear from newbies as well as what PC Gamer Mag. calls The Grognards...lol. _____________________________________________ ------------------ NC Airborne Sappers Lead the way!! A 'grognard' is someone who knows more about the Afrika Korps than Rommel did.. Seriously, it's a hardcore wargamer, someone who started with board games and moved onto computers. A grognard studies all the minutiae of armies. Generally they specialise; there are ACW grognards, WW2 grognards, Napoleonic grognards etc. It has the origin in a nickname for Napoleon's veterans, who had seen it all and were impressed by nothing. Grognard is French for 'grumbler'. troopie (who is not a grognard.) ------------------ Pamwe Chete

Tankhead -> (11/2/2000 10:46:00 PM)

I am also since I spend way to much time on wargaming. " Well I don't think so but my friend tell me so " I wish I had 36 hours in a day. I am too... dunno if its good or bad though. After all how often do you hear a girl say "*tee hee* guys who play SPWaW realy turn me on *giggle*" Or your boss go "Well Steve, this week you have completely neglected your office, in fact you have done absolutely nothing but work on your new campaign for SPWaW...keep up the good work" I guess you just have to get your prioritys straight (who needs girls and work anyway). mogami -> (11/3/2000 7:51:00 PM)

Hey I liked "Tigers in the Snow" although I played it on C-64 with a cassette tape player (took 20 minutes to load) I also liked "Knights of the Desert" I downloaded a emulator (Frodo) so I could still play some of the old games (USAAF, and Colonial Conquest) Also I was browsing some web sites the other day and discovered they are still making the first board game I ever played SPI's "War in Europe" I loved SPI and had everything they made for years. ------------------ I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a differant direction!

Nikademus -> (11/3/2000 11:28:00 PM)

ah....Tigers in the Snow. The very first wargame i ever played on a computer. With my then state of the art Atari 400 computer! complete with Mcdonaldland keyboard. whoo ho!

Tombstone -> (11/3/2000 11:56:00 PM)

I dont think I'm long enough in the tooth to be a grognard myself, but I'm working on it. Tomo

GrinningDwarf -> (11/4/2000 6:00:00 AM)

I'd never heard the term 'grognard' until a couple of months ago. Thanks for the solid definintion! I was one 1980-87, starting in high school and about five years after. Then I didn't have time for gaming for a long time. I'm slowly getting back into it, and SP:WAW was a great find!
