strollen -> Friendly Fire (6/11/2002 11:33:07 AM)

I was watching a large strike on a Japanese Transport TF. One my eye caught a report of the DMS Southard being attacked. I thought Southard that's not a Japanese name, does Japan get DMS?. Sure enough the combat report had a section for
Allied ships attacked...

Well as it turns out that if you have an enemy TF and friendly TF in the same hex, airstrikes CAN (but don't always) attack friendly ships.

Only time in the game I wish my LBA weren't so deadly :-)

Neat feature.

Yes, that happens on rare occasions. :)

Hopefully, this only occurs when handling attacks by US planes into an hex occupied by Allied units:rolleyes:

[Sorry! couldn't resist that]

I had the Chester hit a mine in Cairns harbor the other day. My first "friendly fire" episode. Real Pain in the *** too, since she was the only major unit I have in the area to combat Jap supply runs into Gilli Gilli...

I was impressed with this twist of realism in the handling of mined hexes. Have you also noticed that friendly ships try to circumvent know minefields when moving through an area.

I have heavily mined the area around Noumea and was quite surprised to find all my TF's entering and leaving harbour going on a wide detour to skirt the minefields when entering and leaving port. Nice touch I thought and made a mental note to leave a minefree passage next time.

Didz-
I've seen TFs avoiding known mined hexes as well. I also mined a couple hexes off Noumea, to the West, and have had great success getting Jap subs in the area. I've confirmed at least 2 sunk and 4 more damaged to some extent... The AI seems to react however, as the I-boats have been hovering farther offshore now, out of the mined hexes (and have managed to sink a number of my auxiliaries too).

In my game the IJN subs have completely ignored the heavily mined Noumea and been hovering about the east coast of Australia instead. Whether this is a consequence of my extensive mining or a mere quirk of the AI's chosen strategy I'm not sure.
