JudgeDredd -> Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 3:15:29 PM)

Just come back from a holiday in my Fatherland - Scotland.

I lived there from a bairn up to 16 when I joined the Army. I've lived in England ever since...so I've spent the majority of my years in England. Whenevr I go back to Glasgow, it's always to see friends and family...so I never get to see much of Scotland and I was getting pretty fedup being told by all sorts of nationalities how beautiful my own country is...so this time we rented a cottage for the week in a wee town calld Onich just south of Fort William

We wanted to climb Ben Nevis, but the weather was awful all week. It was eventually meant to be nice on Friday, so we choose that day to do it - unfortunately, I was advised not to go above 600 meters with the kids due to the 70mph gusts. We ended up going 900 meters and headed back down, gutted. But it will still be there for the doing another day.

Ben Nevis, by the way, is the biggest mountain in Britain standing a proud 1344 meters (4409 feet).

These are a few photos of our trip.

At the start looking fresh and keen

About 600 meters up here

As far as wee could go - 900 meters

Great pics. Hope you make it to the top someday.

Barthheart -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 4:02:41 PM)

Great pictures JD. Thanks for sharing.

Joshuatree -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 4:56:44 PM)

Thanks for the pics Judge. I have very fond memories of Scotland, absolutely stunning landscape. Great place to ride your motorbike. Say, talking about Ben Nevis.... you *did* go to the distillery didn't you? The make world class whiskey and you can buy it there quite a bit cheaper.

RedArgo -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 5:34:42 PM)

Beautiful scenery. I especially like your hat!

Thanks for sharing.

WallysWorld -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 6:43:25 PM)

Thanks for the pictures, JudgeDredd.

I'll be heading there next year for a self-driving tour.

I knew it was real! (wonder why so many people had such a hard time getting pics or proof of it?)
*grin*

Arctic Blast -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 9:00:02 PM)

Well...Nessie's quite a disappointment, isn't she? Totally overhyped. [:D]

Great pics, JD.

sol_invictus -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 10:35:57 PM)

Great photos Judge. I hope one day soon to make it over to Scotland. Where did you find those fine looking lassies?[;)] Nice family you have there.

uncc -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 10:46:41 PM)

great pics, a beautiful country (and lasses!)

OK, was I the only one who had to look up "bairn"? [&:] (figured it meant child, ankle-biter, lineoleum lizard, etc, but wanted to be sure...[:)])

EwingNJ -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (8/31/2009 11:05:16 PM)

Fake, all fake I tell you. This is supposed to be Scotland but not one view of a bottle, even so much as a dram of single malt? I think not.

Brigz -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:23:55 AM)

You're a lucky man, JD! Beautiful country. Beautiful family. Thanks for sharing your holiday.

sabre1 -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:31:01 AM)

Yeah, JD thanks for sharing. Beautiful family, what the heck happened to you. [:'(]

I need to visit Scotland someday. My son has been over there, and our family orginated from there.

Fred98 -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 6:01:54 AM)

Nice photos. Looks like you have a nice family.

How is it that the best women always team up with the worst looking blokes ????

We call that a mogul hill in B.C. ;)

I've been to Scotland and have relatives in Inverness but I am 3/4 English bastage and 1/4 Welch Celtic barbarian and look Celtic too.

hellfirejet -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 8:33:12 AM)

Home is where the heart is and I just love Scotland, so I guess will never leave.LANG MAE YER LUM REEK ( JD)[;)]

Erik Rutins -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:18:11 PM)

Nice, thanks for sharing. Someday I will have to actually take a trip to Scotland...

Terminus -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:20:40 PM)

Very cool set of pictures. Thanks for sharing.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:31:14 PM)

Thx all. We had a great time. The weather actually looks not too bad in those pics - but beware - I just didn't get the camera out when it was raining - and it rained alot

We were commenting on the fact that we packed raincoats, boots, fleeces and jumpers for our summer holiday!!

Lassies are English. I met Sharon in 1988 when I was in the Army.

And Joshuatree - I'm ashamed to say I didn't make it to the distillery...shame on me! [:o]

Joe98 - you cut me deep - u cut me real deep! [:D]

JudgeDredd -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 3:32:30 PM)

And hellfirejet - I will be going back. I've never felt right outside of her borders. Maybe when I retire.

Joshuatree -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 4:05:40 PM)

You didn't got to the Ben Nevis distillery... [X(] Ah well, you can buy their whiskey everywhere ofcourse, but buying it at the place they actually make it, makes it more special I think. And, they sell very nice whiskey glasses there too! What puzzled me at the time I was there, was the amount of women visiting their distillery... women interested in whiskey? My my the world never ceases to amaze me [:)]
The hidden treasure in lake Loch Ness is ofcourse not Nessie, but the lake itself. Quite nice really, and the RAF does fly very low there! So when you're driving on the road on the south part of the lake, which is maybe 50 metres high... these guys come flying below you! I'm used to jets because I live near a military airbase... but I'm *not* used to fighters flying below me.

Fallschirmjager -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 9:25:35 PM)

Wow I think I know where I am planning my next vacation. Gorgeous countryside and a cute family.
Thanks for sharing. I have hit most of Europe in my travels but never Scotland. I think I might need to change that soon. I need to get over there during football season. I am a huge Rangers fan and would love to see a match or even go to the derby (which im sure getting tickets too is next to impossible).

Greybriar -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/1/2009 9:37:30 PM)

Lovely photos in every respect. Thank you for sharing, JudgeDredd.

CSO_Talorgan -> RE: Holiday in Scotland (9/6/2009 9:31:37 PM)

Presume everybody has heard the rule of thumb:

If you can see the other side of the glen, then it's going to rain.

If you can't see the other side of the glen, then it's already raining!

:)

... and guess what it's doing tonight?!
