Binchois -> Can't get CC5 to start (9/2/2009 4:09:03 PM)

Hi folks,

I just recieved CC:TLD and installed it just fine. I doubleclick and up comes the Start Screen and field-radio sound effects. Seems good...

I am able to navigate everywhere from this screen, but if I try to "Play CC: TLD" or "Play Classic CC5", I am taken to a black screen and immediately recieve a CC dialog box with the message "Not Available" (featuring a scary red circle with a white X through it). Currently, I am hoping to play "Classic CC5."

That's the problem... any ideas? For possibly relevent information, read on:

My "real" computer is in the shop for at least another week (bad motherboard) yet I just got CC:TLD and I can't wait to try it! Having never tried any CC before, I thought I'd try the included "CC5 Classic" on my now 6-yr-old laptop. So far as I can tell, this machine should be up to the task. I've read the CC5 manual, and my specs seem sufficient.

It seems that one doesn't need the disc in the drive to play CC, but I've tried it with all 3 discs. I've also tried to run CC5 classic in Windows 98 mode. My Direct X is version 9.

It sounds like your video drivers are out of date.  If you hold down ctrl as the game is launching you should be able to get access to the options menu.  Uncheck the "Enable Videos" box and hit "OK".  If this fixes the problems your video drivers are out of date.

Please let us know if this works.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply... I feel bad for wasting your time! My old laptop was hopless for running the game (though it did let me read the manual which was good to study before playing).

Anyway, my new machine is up and running and I'm loving this great big scary game of yours. I even have news questions on the main CC:TLD board![:D]

No trouble at all!  No waste of time either.  Glad to be of help.

Something strange is wrong with my game... I try to launch it, but nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. No menu, anything. I dont even know where I could start looking to solve this issue.

I've tried to run all the .exe's in game's install directory but none of them do anything. I tried CCE.EXE but it just hangs into the background and I need to ctrl-alt-del close that process.

RD Oddball -> RE: Can't get CC5 to start (10/31/2009 4:21:31 PM)

Given what you've described the first thing I'd try is turning off videos. Hold F8 as the game is launching and when the options dialog appears uncheck the videos box. Let us know if that works or not. If it does work your video drivers are out of date. If not post back here.

stonikka -> RE: Can't get CC5 to start (10/31/2009 5:19:38 PM)

The game doesnt launch at all so using F8 wont help. I click the icon but nothing happens. I have latest catalyst drivers (had 9.9 but updated to 9.10).

I tried to launch the game with CCE.EXE (not autorun.exe that the icon points to), but it didnt help either. CCE.EXE simply hangs in the process list but nothing ever happens. I just stare at my desktop :) Same with autorun.exe... It stays in my process list but absolutely nothing happens.

EDIT: I can ctrl-alt-del close the process, thats all :P

Ok I'll see if I can find something out for you. I did a search here in the forums because I vaguely recall seeing similar posts but the forum search engine isn't much help.

Run dxdiag and make sure DirectDraw and Direct3D are enabled.

Try right clicking on CCE.exe and choose run as administrator

tLD is running on my Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit machine without a hitch

Did you install to somewhere other than the default directory or do you have a unique drive configuration?

Andrew Williams -> RE: Can't get CC5 to start (11/6/2009 7:39:34 PM)

Have you disabled antialiasing and anastrophic filtering?
