Primal Fury -> Easy Question on Load LCU's (9/6/2009 11:58:48 PM)

Probably pretty easy, but have just picked up AE after a long lapse in playing WITP.

I want to load an LCU. Troop screen says 6875 load cost. Fine, I make a task force with AP's with total capacity 8300 and click load troops. Only aircraft appear on the screen as possible candidates. Is there something other than capcity that must be considered?

Thanks!

If the land unit is attached to a restricted HQ, it's not available to load. Check it's HQ. If there's a "(R)" after the HQ name, it's restricted. You'll have to pay the PPs to change the unit to a non-restricted HQ in order to move it.

Doesnt the land unit have to be in strat mode to load it?

Mike Solli -> RE: Easy Question on Load LCU's (9/7/2009 12:15:18 AM)

Oh yeah, strat mode to load in a transport TF and combat mode to move in an amphib TF. Thanks. [:D]

TheTomDude -> RE: Easy Question on Load LCU's (9/7/2009 12:16:33 AM)

The LCU has to be in Combat mod for loading on a Amphib TF and in Strat mode for loading on a Transport TF. Not sure if a LCU in Move mode can be loaded onto a transport TF as well. Never tried that.

Edit: aah too slow. [;)]

Yes, the strat mode made it available...thanks guys.

Wow, that seems like overkill that I need to go set that mode on land units first in a separate menu. So loading a land unit is: 1) go to land unit, change hq if required, set mode to strat move, write down load cost of unit, close window. 2) go to base, create tf for transport with needed capacity, load troops, pick the unit from step 1. Hopefully I am doing this inefficently!

Troops load/unload faster on a Amphib TF, also check the port size at the destination, other wise if the ship can't dock it will take week(s) to unload!

LiquidSky -> RE: Easy Question on Load LCU's (9/7/2009 5:24:22 AM)

Yeah..I am learning the hard way how to transport troops...a week into Guadalcanal and I just figured out:

a:) Strat mode to load troops unto transports.
b:) Transports can be converted from cargo to troop (or vice versa)
C:) It is faster to unload many small transports rather then one big one.

also..after some initial success by the US submarines, I am now sinking them (or so I am told by my ASW teams, and why would they lie to me?)
by sending out (a bunch!) small 3 boat task groups with one hex reaction ranges, and some air on ASW patrol.

You can skip the "write down load cost" , try:
1) go to land unit, change hq if required, set mode to strat move
2) go to base, create tf for transport with ONLY ONE SHIP PER DESIRED LCU/AIR, load troops, pick the unit from step 1.
3) verify load, push "get more transports" if needed
4) set target, dock if necesary/apropiate,(optional) transfer an escort to the TF.

it probably will not "maximize" results, but for a tansport TF (opposed to a amph where you probably want to choose exactly) works quite weel for me
