As a Japanese player you can not be wasteful and Supply and Fuel are keys to winning a campaign, I am looking for ways to save.

Please post any ideas.

Tiger!

Don't start a war with the US, UK (+Commonwealth) and the Dutch? [:D]

tigercub -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 6:55:41 AM)

Back a Samurai into a corner and poke him with a stick is see what he does.

Historiker -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 9:44:09 AM)

order your ressource and oil convois from DEI to the Home islands "no refuel" and just refuel them in the ressource area.

tigercub -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 10:18:32 AM)

So Castor Troy please add some thing that could be helpful for the new guys....like Don`t build forts at all your bases only the ones that are in real need as this burns up a lot of supply.( how much i wish i new)

Tiger!

vlcz -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 10:38:53 AM)

As you have said about forts, build only what you really need, if you are not sure, do not build anything, it is very esay that you are not onl wasting suplys, but indeed building for your enemy and saving HIS time and supply.

Put non-front land units to rest.

The topic "Never start a land War in china" applies only too well to your situation. Dont go roaming china just because you can. This can apply in burma if you are not going after a "sudden victory" but are trying to build a defense to last to the end.

Historiker´s comment about refueling seems very usefull too indeed, more than half the problem is not having the supply/fuel where you need it.

As a general rule dont rebuld a refinery, and in no way a resource center.

Have your big TFs docked in port, dont waste fuel being "on station"

There is more than enough fuel and resources in SRA. The only problem is limited number of tankers (which are now priceless) and transports needed to ship them where needed...

Blind Sniper -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 10:50:11 AM)

Although I am only playing a small scenario (Guadalcanal) as Japanese, my big concern is the lack of fuel.
I have a lot of toys but I cannot use all of them. Every time I think twice before move a single ship and I have to admit that I like this kind of logistical problem [:)]

In a big campaign I would stop to build major ship after 1942 and I would build all CA/CL/DD's.
I would try to intercept enemy TFs with medium/small ships and I would preserve my BB's, after all a lucky torpedo can damage/sink a BB [8D], of course if I have a BB available I will use her against a power enemy SAG.
A full Kido Butai replenishment cost 24995 fuel and 1318 supply (only CV's), Yamato sucks 6300 fuel...in all probability I would not build the Musashi.

Given that the fuel is so critical I would escort my TK's very well. Moreover I would try to stop the enemy "capital flight" from enemy ports inside SRA that have plenty of it, how to do it is the problem [:'(]

ANATHEEEEEMA!!!![:@] How can anyone NOT build such a marvelous parade boat [8D] Losing the war means less if you can have a good time moving around Yamato and Mushashi.... And if they win ANYTHING it is moral win for japan [:D][:D]

Tone -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 4:46:54 PM)

The Combined Fleets Battleships should be used as a fleet in being because they use a lot of fuel when operating

The Combined Fleets heavy ships should be based in the SRA where the fuel is and where they can move to the fronts as needed

The tanker fleets that support the Combined Fleet should be based in the SRA

When the Combined Fleet is in operation it should be planned to stay on station only for a short time

Mike Solli -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 5:03:59 PM)

The SRA (and Burma) produces about 600k fuel a month (given all refineries fully repaired and producing at 100% capacity).  Of that, 81k comes from Burma.  275k comes from Palembang and second is Balkipapan with 81k.  Maybe stationing the surface fleet at Palau is the answer?  (Sort of) in the middle of anyplace the Allies might attack.  Early warning becomes essential so the fleet can make it to wherever it needs to be on time.

The Home Islands produce 240k fuel a month at 100% capacity (which is unlikely by 1943).  Pt. Arthur produces 32k.

Also keep in mind that the starting Japanese industry needs 417k fuel a month.  The Home Islands will need to have ~130k fuel a month imported (in addition to what it produces) just to keep it's industry afloat.

Tone is right, the Combined fleet needs to be in or near the SRA.

Hi Mike,

When you say KB should be in Palau, do you mean Peleliu ? (Can't find Palau [&:])

Why not at Tawi-Tawi like IRL, closer to Oil Storages, and will ease replenishment ?
Any thoughts ?

Regards
Gilbert

Actually, it's the base just NE of Peleliu, starting with B. It's the Palau Islands. It was called Palau in WitP. [:D]

Sure, Tawi-Tawi is fine. Just pick a place you can refuel easily. [:D] I'd pick one with a decent sized port. Also, it's wouldn't be bad to change it periodically. You wouldn't want those nasty Allied subs finding out where you hid your fleet, would you? [:D]

Schani -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 5:48:41 PM)

Babelthaup? Pretty sure.

Ah, I wasn't too far, you meant Babeldaob [:D] . I agree to a periodic change. What concerns me in addition is the rearmement process (Planes, guns...). You will need a big port and lots of AE, AKE...and a big airfield as well to protect the fleet....I need some additional coffee [:D]

crsutton -> RE: Saving supply, fuel (9/8/2009 7:30:12 PM)

If you are the Allied player do not send your old BBs to Oz or the S. Pacific early in the campaign. You just will never have enough fuel.

Really, really look after your tankers. They are scarce early in the campaign.

You will have more than enough tankers in India. Once in a while send a large convoy to Perth from Aden or Capetown with fuel. Then use small tankers to run them from Perth to Sidney (rail connection is not too good).

Use your large AKs to carry fuel as well. You got more than you can use early in the game.

Watch for raiders....

I was starting to think how grown-up this forum had got, no squabbling or hair-pulling, and then this idiot shows up. [:@]

I hope you're not talking to me (and I've been here 7 years).

Either way, I'd suggest you practice what you preach.

Yes I am talking about you Sir… Tiger was talking about this game, and not real-life. Because this is a game, A GAME and not real-life

Just ignore it. That's what the green button is for.

Then I guess you want to get suspended.

You should go back and see how this thread developed. The samurai comment had nothing to do with the game. It was a reference to, and justification for, Japan's attack on the US. You see, this game is based on REAL LIFE history. A history where some of our fathers, uncles and grandfathers had to fight the Axis basterds when they would have preferred to be home with their families.

Tiger was just making a funny comment about a game, war ended 64 ago and you should really vent your frustrations elsewhere instead on this forum. Or maybe you would like to add native Indians, English and Mexicans to your list of "bastards" since USA was in war with them too, and I am sure some horrible things have been done by them to someone's ancestors...

Although when you think of native Indians we all know who "bastards" were in that war. And your reference to women and children could be easily used to describe attackers and winners of that one...

Do not hate people that play axis in any GAME, it surely does not mean they hate whole world and have tattooed swastikas on their bald heads.

If Tiger was just making a "funny comment" then all I did was make a "funny comment" in response. I didn't make any personal attacks. Since my "funny comment" I've been called an idiot and told to go away. Now you've gone and played the Native American card on me - even though my family were all still in Europe at that time. :)

If Matrix were to make a game about the Indian Wars here in the USA, should that ever be politically acceptable, chalk me up as someone that would prefer to play as the Indians.

One thing Tiger! and I both agree on is that we are both anxiously awaiting news on the next patch release.
