xj900uk -> Disband Group/Withdraw Group both highlighted in Red ? (9/8/2009 1:22:28 PM)

Am currently playing the Guadacanal scenario against the AI and most of my Aussie squadrons (especially the P40's) have both their 'Disband Group' and also 'Withdraw Group' options highlighted in red.
Not quite sure why this is. have checked the button for air-group required withdrawal dates & the only 4 listed there are B17 squadrons. No Aussie ones at all. Anybody know why this is and should I be disbanding/withdrawing them regardless?

Not enough supply or something to allow planes to go into pool? I think if those lines are red, it says "send pilots to pool but lose the planes", or something like that.

Thanks.  Although supply seems OK for the bases and it only seems to ever effect Aussie squadrons, which is a bit wierd.  I have some US P39's & F4 recce planes at PM and they are completely unaffected.  I also have a Wirraway squadron training at Sydney which has both its withdraw & disband buttons highlighted in red & they have plenty of supplies...

It might be related to distance from HQ or something.

Thanks.  That I haven't considered.  Will have to check where their relative HQ's are...

Found this in manual (p. 149):

The Withdraw Group option is just like Disband except the pilots remain with the unit and return with it when it returns to the game Withdrawing will transfer the aircraft to a group with the same aircraft at the base. If no group is available, the group’s ready planes may be returned to the aircraft pool if within reach of the group’s Home Base. If not the group may still be withdrawn but the aircraft will be lost. The text "Withdraw Group" will be in RED to indicate that the aircraft are lost. The Withdrawn air unit is not permanently removed from the game but it will rather returned in 60 days. Groups can’t be disbanded into another group that would make the new group exceed its operational level.

I have all 3 sqns of the AVG at toungoo in Burma with 221 Group RAF HQ which is AVG HQ, yet only 1st sqn buttons are highlighted in red. It cannot be distance to hq.

My supply at Toungoo is in the orange.

We would need clarification to this, since this seems to cause it:

if within reach of the group’s Home Base.

I have no idea what it means....wonder if it could mean National Home Base...

I've found it now in the rules,  yes it is to do with range from the unit groups HQ.
Basically any unit which has its disband or withdraw buttons in red means that it is outside of hte command radius of its respective group HQ.  Any planes (dunno about pilots) with the group when you hit disband or withdraw will be permanently lost and not put back in the replacement pools...
