Admiral DadMan -> Patch Procedure for PBeM: -UPDATED (9/8/2009 7:57:16 PM)

For those of you running PBEM games, here is the recommended patch update procedure for the game file AND Scenario files:

Japan PLAYER 1
1) START game with current version.
1) LOAD turn from Allied PLAYER 2 to resolve combat using current version.
2) After Replay ends, SAVE game.
3) EXIT game completely.

4) SEND Combat Replay file wpae001.wps to Allied PLAYER 2. Do this now so that he will know to run it with the current game version.

5) UPGRADE to new version AND/OR copy/paste new scenario files into SCEN folder.

6) Re-START game with NEW version.
7) LOAD turn, issue orders, and END turn.
8) SEND turn savegame file to Allied PLAYER 2 as normal.

Allied PLAYER 2

Admiral DadMan -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/8/2009 9:59:08 PM)

You know, when my kids ask questions before I want to answer them, I tell them that the more they ask, the longer it will take...

Roger Neilson II -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/9/2009 6:44:01 AM)

When my students ask me questions like that I tell them I can't answer them because then they'd know more than I do...... always gets some very puzzled faces!

jjoshua -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/9/2009 10:55:02 AM)

I always find it amazing that when someone posts a 'help tip' for others on any given forum like this one; and when others ask for further info on patch news or whatever; these same 'pinheads' always reply with some cheesy answer like...(Well, when my kids ask....)crap!!!

I guess, they are the only ones in their small minds, who feel privileged or self ordained; to want the rest of us to beg for mere scraps of info at their pleasure.

If you know stuff about a patch, then for friggin sakes, quit jerking people around, and just pass the info on.

Whats with the cloak and dagger crud.

Grow-up!!!

dorjun driver -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/9/2009 11:17:34 AM)

I'll just back out of here slowly...

jjoshua -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/9/2009 11:40:26 AM)

What can I say....I just found it insulting that someone would think that they could treat people like an adolecent child. I don't need a lesson in 'patience'; more like they need a lesson in courtesy towards others.

There are so many great posts for this game, and to see someone thumbing their 'perverbial' nose of arrogance, and using some 'hokey pokey' kiddie analogy, just torked me off.

If someone wants to make children learn how to mind and be patient, then volunteer for 'playground duty' at the nearest elementary school, and let the rest of us have 'forum space' for better ways to play and learn the game.

Geez!!!

Admiral DadMan -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/9/2009 1:21:43 PM)

This thread was started to help those who are playing PBEM games who had used the beta downloads to update, but also to help those who would be downloading the official update when it is made available.

I have no information as to when this will occur. Stating that the update would be called v1084 was a guess based on the fact that the last beta was v1083.

What I find amusing is that other folks seemed to take comments in the spirit in which they were intended.

I consider myself chastised.....

Seriously, this is an amusing thread[:D]

For those of you running PBEM games, here is a recommended update procedure*:

(Note: v1079 refers to the game Release version and v1084 refers to the Update version. Your current version may vary.)

1) Japanese player resolves latest turn using current version v1079.
2) Japanese player saves game.
3) Japanese player exits game.
4) Japanese player sends combat replay to Allied player.
5) Japanese player upgrades to new version v1084.
6) Japanese player issues orders and advances turn.
7) Japanese player sends turn to Allied player.

8) Allied player plays combat replay under old version v1079.
9) Allied player upgrades to new version v1084.
10) Allied player issues orders and advances turn.
11) Allied player send turn file back to Japanese player.

The key is that orders must be entered using the same version and then the turn resolved with that version i.e.:
-J Orders v1079, A Orders v1079, J Resolve v1079, A Replay v1079;
-Both update to v1084, J Orders v1084, A Orders v1084, etc.

For Japanese players playing multiple PBEM games, what this means is that you will need to collect all of your opponents' turns and run them before updating.

After you run each turn, send off the replay file to the Allied player, and ask him to play the replay under the old version. Once you have resolved all of your PBEM opponents' turns, you can now upgrade.

*Thanks to "Feinder" and "cap_and_gown".

Thanks Scott, you probably saved me a bit of trouble down the line. [&o]

I agree, I have two PBEMs going and it is confusing enough. I will make sure both opponents have your directions as well.

Wow, someone must have eaten your breakfast. [X(]

It seems that everyone else who has read the posts you objected to (2 times) was able to see the humor and fun in them. It's a shame that you don't allow yourself to see it as well. It would make this wonderful GAME even more fun than it already is. [sm=nono.gif]

jjoshua -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (9/11/2009 9:03:35 AM)

Naaaa, no one ate my breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Obviously others feel I have grossly over-reacted with my past comments...

I figure if I dish it out, I gotta take the criticism as well. Hey you interpreted it one way, I interpreted it another. If I was too harsh, well guess I will tone it down next time, but then again I may not...roll of the dice, what can I say, but I shall try anyways.

Different game. Version 1.84 is referring to the original classical WITP.

michaelm75au -> RE: Update Procedure for PBEM: (4/21/2012 3:43:07 AM)

The idea of the procedure is to demonstrate the update process for moving from a current version to a newer version, e.g old version (e.g. 1079) to a newer one (e.g. 1084).

The version numbers would change in the life cycle of releases (we are currently at 1109) and players could be playing games on different versions.

Not everyone likes to upgrade to the latest version as they come out.[:D]
