Even the screenshots on the official site are rife with typos and misspellings. Not that it affects the gameplay, but does anyone know if those were cleaned up prior to release?

Quite a lot of them were, if we missed any we'll be happy to correct them in a post-release update.

Thanks for the quick response! Let me see if I can scrape up $35 from various couch cushions around the house... :)

Sorry, spelling mistakes are still everywhere.

I'll go through each briefing before the first update and make sure any typos are addressed. If you see some, please report them here to make sure we don't miss them.

Now... if someone would just tell Firaxis the difference between Deity and Diety so they don't mess up their GUI again :P

Actually, I don't think the word "malus" is a mispelling. I vaguely remember that word meaning "penalty" or "negative", but not seen or used in years.
I can't remember if the term was used in an old version of Dungeons and Dragons rulebook when explaining stat bonuses, or some kind of latin term to do with Banking/Insurance/Finance that was drummed into me during Economics class at school.
