Larry Holt -> Russian Steel playtesters wanted (6/13/2002 7:45:14 AM)

I have a scenario for Russian Steel ready for playtesting. Here is the general situation and playtesting requirements. If anyone is interested, email me at lholt@atl.sita.int with RS1 playtest in the subject line.

5/22/43 Situation: The Germans facing your unit have been attacking but have recently transitioned to a hasty defense and had their armor units withdrawn for use elsewhere. The remaining forces are built around an infantry regiment. They have had two days to prepare a defense and can be expected to have entrenched their units and heavy weapons, dug trenches and bunkers and created obstacles. They will have established a doctrinal defense with a security zone, MLR and rear area. They have had time to lay some mines primarily around defensive positions and on high speed avenues of advance. They have not had time to construct fully interlocking defensive positions or lay belts of obstacles. No tank units are available, only local reserves can be expected but this could include assault guns and tank killers. Higher HQ has allocated guards infantry, assault engineers, rocket artillery and heavy armor to augment your unit for this attack. Some conscripts will make a diversionary attack in the south of your sector.
Mission: Initial objective seize German first defensive echelon along north-south grid line 60. Your objective of the day: Open the road to Kantasky running E to W in the center of your sector (from grid 5145 to 0230) so that the divisional second echelon can pass though to accomplish its deeper, divisional objective of the day.

Play testing objectives:
1. Determine if the game is balanced. This means can a human player obtain a high marginal victory in the allocated number of turns. If players are consistently obtaining decisive victories, it is not balanced.
2. Note at what turn Soviets capture VHs.
3. Provide save of final turn.
4. Is it exciting? Does it make you sweat and want to keep playing just one more turn?

Criteria 5 & 6 are scenario spoilers and will only be fully divulged to testers.

5. German tactics were to strip Soviet infantry away from tanks then destroy them up close. This scenario is designed to replicate this. [deleted] Do you see this happening?
