Here's an example of call it, non-pixelated confusion.

I move to take the vacant victory hex.

Ratatatat!

Do you see the enemy in there?

LarryP -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/10/2009 11:23:33 PM)

What does the exclamation mark sign mean?

A lot of what I've seen of this game, it looks a lot like WW2 Road To Victory and WW2-ToW. Am I correct in saying that?

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/10/2009 11:39:51 PM)

Hi Larry, I couldn't load a bigger picture but somewhere there is a hidden arty unit that just support fired on me as I moved into the hex and actually walked into the hard to see enemy unit.

The exclamation seems to suggest hidden arty fire.

Ola Berli -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/10/2009 11:43:39 PM)

And I was thinking the bad OGRE was in napoleonics but now we have it in WW2 also [:D]

Do I see roman laurels crowning the flags, perhaps You have right Adam made in a garage [:'(]

Are there tooltips when hovering the mouse over things? [&:]

To see a unit you have to click on it Larry [:(]

Here's an oddity - the phantom 2nd Panzer Division in the Vyazma scenario. First pic on a bridge, second pic moved a hex:

Erik Rutins -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 12:23:12 AM)

Adam,

As you can see in your first screenshot, you do not have visibility into the hexes beyond the enemy unit you attacked. There was indeed artillery in support of the enemy and the exclamation mark shows supporting fire and where it originated from. So now you know they have artillery in support. Or are you saying you did not attack that adjacent unit?

As far as the second screenshot goes, that looks like a visual bug. If you save and reload, is the unit's model still missing?

Ola,

Victory laurels are certainly not a period-specific symbol, they have become a general symbol, which was used in this game to show which are the key objectives.

Regards,

- Erik

Yes, there are. When you hover the mouse over a unit, for example, some info on it shows up in the bottom info area. Similarly if you hover over any button or icon, a tooltip explaining it pops up. Supporting fire and that icon are explained in the manual, as far as I can recall.

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 12:42:08 AM)

Hi Erik:

1. The Pic 1 comment was that it's hard to see the enemy unit in the city I walked into. I thougt it looked vacant.

2. Yes I can replicate the 2nd Pz Bug. One time when the unit moved it looked normal. 2 times when the unit moved it spun to the destination hex!

Here's more pics from the same save,

Pic 1 - 2nd Pz now starting under (no, it's part inside) the bridge:

2nd Pz after spinning to its new hex:

Erik Rutins -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 12:45:25 AM)

"Spun to its destination hex" - I have not seen that, though I have seen a unit spin in place when alt-tabbing out of the game to the desktop and stop spinning in place when I return to the game. Are you running full screen or windowed? If you can duplicate this from a save file, can you e-mail me the save file to erikr@matrixgames.com and instructions please?

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 12:47:15 AM)

Note folks that after you save a game, the weather you get on firing it up will be random.

Take advantage of the good weather before saving!

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 12:49:05 AM)

Sure Erik - save on it's way. Playing full screen.

Best,
Adam.

Adam, I thank you. I'm following this thread, and the others about this game. [:)]

JudgeDredd -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 7:32:55 AM)

Adam

re your first post...sorry m8, but (to coin a phrase from a British advert) you need to go to spec savers...the unit is clearly visible to me, even without my glasses on [:'(]

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 8:16:45 AM)

Judge! You're looking at a screen pic with a clue! Wait till you see the whole map and you're... oh you'll see when you buy it.

Anyway, this is for Judge only (assuming you don't yet have the game).

In 3 seconds - just a glance - what's in this hex?

JudgeDredd -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 9:09:30 AM)

ok - good point.

Seem to be some graphical overlay issues as I managed to see in your other posts. But the first one (clue or not) a soldier unit is quite clear. I'm not saying it couldn't be clearer [:D]

Adam Parker -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 9:10:48 AM)

LOL! Enjoy the game mate, it's worth a try [:)]

Btw it's a flak gun!

Erik Rutins -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 11:41:00 AM)

I could see the flak gun, but I think part of the issue there is the overhead view. The strength number tells you something is there, if you hover your mouse over it the game will tell you what it is even if the graphic blends into the city. I couldn't really see that being an issue outside the city hexes or at a more zoomed in view.

Bloodshot -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 1:36:19 PM)

If you press the "3" key you can toggle wireframe mode on/off. Not sure if this will help you see your units better, but some of the oldies here might get a nostalgic tear in their eyes playing like this. ;P

P.S. The "2" key toggles the weather effects!

Hi Bloodshot would you mind posting a screnshot of wireframe mode off?  Thanks

Bloodshot -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 3:36:35 PM)

Sorted Kipper!
..and here's another shot incase you wanted to see one with the Hegaxonal Tile Grid switched off... (ingame, use the "1" key to toggle)

Kipper -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 4:23:44 PM)

Thanks a million.  I think that with NATO stuff this could be very successful.  An option for thick 3-D cylinders with a simple NATO symbol on top (like the markers Von Rundstedt uses at the start of A Bridge Too Far, for example) could attract a lot of the more grognady types, and should be a very simple job with the graphics engine and would give a very good feel of operational command.  I for one instinctively look for fields of fire when I see small soldiers and I could never shake that out of my head :)

All in all this was quite an achievement on the part of the devs.

Marshal Villars -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 9:23:50 PM)

Kipper, I agree :D

I think if they added a cylinder with the NATO symbol on top of it--and made it small enough to allow up to 3 per hex (and add a big yellow dot to show that there is more there than you can see, then it would be pretty great).

By the way...what is the scale of the hexes in the game? And how long does each turn represent?

Motomouse -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/11/2009 9:59:32 PM)

I think this one is quite crispy and clear. (Looked even better before jpg conversion from the png screenshot)

1680X1050 32 bit, Anti aliasing 2, Floating-point Consistent, Nvidia 88 GT
Nvidia Driver Settings: High Quality Textures, Anisotropic Filtering 4, all optimizations turned off
(very playable performance over here)

goodwoodrw -> RE: Can We Talk Graphics? (9/12/2009 12:32:23 AM)

I was a bit disappoint with the graphics initially, but I'm over that now, not state of the art,but functional. The only immediate thing graphically I would like to see is the toning down of the movement area colour.

one hex is roughly 5 km, one turn = one day.

Hello Adam,

Thanks for the bug report.
We know the problem that you can see sometimes a "ghost unit" like in your pictures.
We are working on it, but i canīt say how long it will be take to fix it at the moment.
