kg_1007 -> Schedules (9/11/2009 6:18:43 AM)

A rookie question...how can I put in a real-schedule, to actually be played? When I go to the options, and select "import schedule" the choice it gives is a different file extension, than the schedules sitting in the retrosheet folder.How to convert these to the file extension the program is asking for?
thank you

After spring training and immediately before the season, the program will find the schedule and ask you if you want to use it. That's how I do it. I've never tried the "import schedule" option.

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 1:56:12 PM)

Hmmm...I didn't get that option when my season began, and the past few days messing with a new assn. trying to get it, still don't...it just goes into the season. Not really extremely important, I guess..just trying to figure out a way to create a schedule, and give some teams a few extra days off...I noticed when I played as the Cardinals against the Astros, that 6 of the Astros 8 position players were worn out, and most of their pitchers, also..so I looked, snd saw they were halfway through a 27 game span with no days off, and the computer doesnt seem to rest them, so I was thinking of running a schedule that would avoid those long streaks mostly.

I've never really figured out how to use the "import schedule" feature either.  I assume that in order to find a schedule, you would have had to download them from Retrosheet, right?  If so, where do you put them so that PS automatically finds them?

Also, if you aren't playing a historically accurate assoc. and say you're using teams based in non-major league cities, can you still use a real schedule as long as you have the same number of teams in the league?  If so, how do you do that?

Wrathchild -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 8:19:11 PM)

I think there's a retrosheet folder where all the schedules go.

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 8:26:34 PM)

I do have the retrosheet folder, with many schedules in it..I just cannot figure out how to actually use them, as their folder types are different than what the game engine is asking for.

Wrathchild -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 8:46:11 PM)

All of my schedule files are .txt files. When I advance a season it automatically tells me that it has found the correct historical schedule. If you want, I could create a test association to see if I can still get a schedule imported.

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 8:56:20 PM)

I am thinking, that perhaps the reason I did not see a dialog, is that I have not yet advanced to a second season, my first is progressing in early July now, and I have opened up others, to try to tinker(messing with the thing is always half the fun for me)...but when I go to the options, to import a schedule, it allows me to look, but it is only looking for the extension .sked or something like that(have to see it exactly when I get home). The season of my first, the 2004 season, is just strange lol....My St Louis Cardinals, for instance, are getting nearly every Saturday off, and usually have a 3 game set W/Th/Fr..off Sat, then 3 game set Su/M/Tu...which never in my time of paying attention to baseball, did any real team have that schedule...but I can deal with it, no big deal...my only problem was as I mentioned above, when I saw that my poor opponents the Astros, were stuck in the midst of a 27 game streak with no day off in the month of June. Before that streak, they were 1.5 games out behind me, after, they are 16 out. So I just figured, that if the AI won't rest players, I would create a schedule that will [:'(]

GNDN -> RE: Schedules (9/11/2009 11:57:05 PM)

I have created a whole bunch of schedules in OOTP text format. I actually have them up to 2009. They are on Crash Davis' site.

I save them in the retrosheet folder. To use them, after spring training but before you start the regular season, go to options. Select import schedule, choose ootp text file. You will also need to pick a season start date.

I do not have the game up right now, so I am kind of fuzzy on the steps. My point is that you can import and use other schedules.

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 8:04:42 PM)

Thank everyone here who tried to help. I am giving up on it for now I guess though. If anyone does figure out how to do, please post here and when I have some time again, I will try to pick it back up.

Wrathchild -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 8:34:25 PM)

kg,

I just created a new association, starting in 1935. I set a custom schedule to 154 games and the following is what I saw after completing Spring Training. I clicked on 'Yes' and it loaded the schedule. I'd like to try what you are doing. Could you give the step by step screen setups for creating your association?

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 9:23:44 PM)

Thanks...well, basically I got as far as yours, which seems to work...but what I was trying to do was generate a "homemade"schedule...so, went to the same page you show here, and on the side, where it says "options and utilities" clicking on that, brings up a several-tabbed window. One of the tabs, which has the Assn name, click on, and it has a choice"import schedule"...which, would be PERFECT[8D] except, that the file extensions it allows you to actually import, are specifically a certain extension for Puresim schedules, and I cannot figure how to trade the text(txt extension) schedule which I made, to the extension it allows you to import. I even tried the ?simple?[;)] method, of renaming the file to the correct extension,and it still cannot be 'read' it seems.
Does that make more sense?
Perhaps, something will be in the 1.84 to encourage the AI to actually rest players who show up exhausted, and I can just use the normal schedules already there.

Wrathchild -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 9:37:03 PM)

Are you sure there are no errors in the text file you are trying to import? I just renamed the retrosheet schedule with .PSC extension and it loaded fine in the Import Schedule screen. All it takes is one error in a delimited text file for an application to get a read error.

kg_1007 -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 9:58:55 PM)

Ahh..now you have me anxious to finish up here and go home to check...I had not thought of that...well, I HAD...but had been so careful, that I thought no way a type error can be made, but I will try to see. Thanks [:)]

Wrathchild -> RE: Schedules (9/14/2009 10:09:52 PM)

I'd be glad to help you if you need an extra set of eyes, though I probably wouldn't be able to get to it tonight. The lads and ale are calling and the bass guitar is packed in the car!
