HHI -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 5:52:55 AM)

I too have had repeated CTD's, running dual Centrino, Vista64 after the update. I got around the problem by directly booting the exe in the WiTP AE folder. I was able to continue on with my saved game with no problem, although I think it is running slower. I assume all this did was eliminate the switches, which I couldn't figure out how to change anyway. I assume that suggest that there is some kind of conflict with the switches in the update.

JeffroK -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 8:50:08 AM)

I hope you've found the bug.

I did some testing of my problem.

I'm up to Nov 42
Scen 1
PDU on

Playing Allied v the AI - CTD

Playing Head to Head - runs OK

Playing v the Allied AI - runs OK.  (Interseting to see what AI did to my careful setup!)

If I save either of these and go back to Allied v AI it crashes.

If I start a new game it runs OK.

I thought it may have been due to the patch removing some units which started in vanilla ( i.e the VMFB's)

JocMeister -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 6:48:44 PM)

I´m also getting CTDs for the first time ever. Started a new game as Allied vs the AI with the new patch. So far its crashed three times when processing the turn.

jwilkerson -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 7:06:47 PM)

The issue was an array out of bounds issue - we have corrected it and are working on a "hot fix".

sgtmorgue -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 7:25:14 PM)

jwilk' ,
excellant news, I've been having WitP/AE withdrawals for days, can hardly wait on a fix, errr hotfix that is :) :) :)

Thanks guys! Great to hear though I have been able to play just fine with -Deepcolor removed. Hopefully that makes sense to you based on the array out of bounds issue.

JeffroK -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/14/2009 10:22:57 PM)

Excellent,

11mths of game was bloody hard work.

No actually doesn't. The array out of bounds issue is air group related and has probably been there for a while - but some of us do not hit it and some of us do. I've never been able to hit it even though I've tried dozens of times.

Hotfix should be out tomorrow.

Is this related to air units which are in game for vanilla, I have 2 VMFB sqns & 1 VMF Sqns with Corsairs which arrived on a CV upgrade. I landed tem on Hilo incase Andy set that as a target.
Now the patc has taken them out of the game is this causing the CTD. (There could be other Air units in a similar situation)

I'll wait for todays hotfix, cos its tomorrow here already!

JocMeister -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/15/2009 6:44:02 AM)

Just to clarify, I started a new game with the new patch and cannot get beyond the december the 8th. I keep getting a CTD a few seconds into the processing. I see something about CAP and then it crashes...I did as HHI suggested and removed the -cpu switch and now it works.

michaelm75au -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/15/2009 12:06:44 PM)

As they say, "it is all relative".
In simple terms, the 'out of bounds' is overwriting random memory.
Sometimes this is okay as nothing is using that bit of memory.
Other times, it is changing memory that is being used by some other computer function or is accessing memory outside that reserved for the program.
And thus causing the program interruption (CTD).

This is why people see different CTD results even when using the same save. Their computer is using that 'random' piece of memory differently.

P.Hausser -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/15/2009 3:28:17 PM)

Any status on when Hot Fix is rdy ?

Yea so -deepcolor was just a coincidence which is not surprising since it did not help other people. All good news nonetheless.

awadley -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/15/2009 6:09:39 PM)

Any status on the Fix? Will we see it today?

oldman45 -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/15/2009 9:13:12 PM)

My crash came on the Dec 14th turn. AI vs US. Crashed early in the turn sequence. I have most things turned off and I do not have a dual core. Running XP. I have the turn 13 and 14 if needed.

jmbraat -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/16/2009 4:43:01 AM)

I started a game with the 2-day turn option and I could not get thru the 1st turn "run-time" without a crash (several times). I switched 1-day turn and I can get to the 2nd turn without the crash (several times).

n01487477 -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/16/2009 4:50:05 AM)

Have a look at the main forum, there is now a patch ... or are you talking about 1.00.84e ?

jmbraat -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/16/2009 4:58:26 AM)

Just 84. Just a nugget of info, probably too old. 2-day ... crash. 1-day ... no crash.

Erik Rutins -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/16/2009 2:09:31 PM)

The v.1.00.84e Hotfix that resolves this is available now. Please note that this is an incremental Hotfix and must be applied on top of v1.00.84.

It's available now in the Downloads section here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/downloads/War.in.the.Pacific.-.Admiral's.Edition

Only two changes to address two critical issues:

v1.00.84e Hotfix – September 15, 2009

• Code Changes
1. Corrected an array boundary issue causing occasional crashes.
2. Removed the invalid ship file update from the data update process. This change is in accordance with the documentation for 1.00.84. Games that were already “updated” their data from previous versions to 1.00.84 will unfortunately already have the bad ship file data, but this hot fix allows games that have not yet been updated to safely update. Please note that this issue did not affect new games started with 1.00.84.

khyberbill -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 12:18:40 AM)

I applied the hotfix, ran a turn, and towards the end of my orders, I tried to look at the upgrade path of a squadron of B-17e's that had to be withdrawn (was going to downgrade to b17d's) with an immediate CTD.

1275psi -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 9:58:00 AM)

consistant CTD at same point after hotfix -only in one game, other seems oK - how do i send the turn? - needed?

Attach the save and I'll have a look at it.
Does it CTD during turn running or while giving orders?

I was not able to re-produce the CTD when I re-loaded the turn. The CTD occurred when I clicked on the "do not up grade" button on the 19th BG/14th BS located in San Francisco. turn attached

1275psi -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 1:17:52 PM)

Sorry michaelm -I am an idiot - saved over turn when I got opponent to re do it.

BUT - turned of background mail program, replayed turn -NO crash.
(was crashing near end of replay)

Sorry to disturb you.
again -Im an idiot

Barneyrubb90 -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 2:20:23 PM)

After adding the Hotfix, I added back in the -CPU2 switch at startup and have been able to run almost 10 turns without crash to desktop issue. Running the switch speeds up orders entry and makes the game much more playable.

Thanks again for the quick reaction and correction of this issue.

Oliver Heindorf -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 5:47:51 PM)

after 1084e and hitting F12 the game quits without warning - repeatable here on the same machine.

Will try it on my mac tonight to see if its still happen in 1083 and then I patch it to 1084e and test it again.

TR Shrum -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 9:34:27 PM)

After installing the Hotfix, I was only able to play 4 turns before the CTD issue came up again.  Pre-hotfix I had made to the Aug 9, 1942 turn, Allied v AI.  Post hotfix I managed to get to Aug 13, 1942 before the CTD issure returned.  Same place as before and I've tried several methods to see if there is a difference.

Clean "shortcut" with no switch settings.  See my Page One Post for system info.

Am I the only one getting a post-hotfix CTD?

Thanks.

Don_Oda -> RE: v1.00.84 Crash to Desktop (9/17/2009 10:31:32 PM)

After CTD -> install patch 1.00.84 –started a new game (Jap x AI) now CTD in (Dec. 20-1941) CTD after message…. assigning cap.[:(]
