I hope someone enlightens me.
What does it need for a pilot to get mentioned during turn phase and in the ops report if he gets killed/injured/bails out/rescued/captured ?
Rank or Exp? Or something else?

I think if they're on the top pilots list is at least one thing but there may be others

Squadron leaders are always mentioned.
I don't know about top pilots, I've lost some quite good ones but they were not mentioned in the report.

I think it is only for the pilots listed in the DB under the particular Squadron/Daitai. If you have a look at the DB, you'll see most Squadrons have 3 or 4 Pilots listed. Some have more, maybe 10 or 12.

I think the rest of the pilots in the squadron list in game are randomily assigned/generated.

Actually, last night playing, one of my Zeros shot down Maj "Pappy" Boyington from the AVG, later with the "Black Sheep" squadron. He was rescued !
