I have the same problem with the new stats browser--only lets me see one league.  The tabs at the top to switch leagues don't appear to be working.  Also, the top salaries sections lists salaries from only one team.

jtfesta -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/16/2009 12:42:12 AM)

Same problem here. Only lets me see one league (American) and the hyperlinks to players aren't active.

Bustoff -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/16/2009 6:13:24 PM)

I just went through the post-season with one of my associations, and I think something is amiss. The budget for each team in the association (35-player teams) is $10,927,270. After the new season started, I looked at the lists of position players and pitchers. To my horror, I noticed that fully 50% of the position players will be looking for contracts in excess of $1.5 million/year next time they renew. And 25% of them will want $3.8 million to $23 million/year. Similar numbers exist for pitchers, although it's not quite as extreme. It wasn't like this--at least, I don't think it was--before going through the post-season with the new RC. Right now there are only 6 players in the association being paid over $1 million, the highest being ~$1.9 million. It doesn't take a genius to see that something is out of whack here. How can any team afford a $23 million player with a budget less than half that? [&:] Does this seem wrong to anyone else, or is it just me?

HotCornerDave -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/16/2009 7:49:48 PM)

Shaun,

I got an error when advancing to the next season, after the "Update HTML Almanac" question:

Error 3078
Description: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'MLBNameChanges.' Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.

I have submitted the debug report to you.

CrashDavis -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/16/2009 8:13:12 PM)

Dave,are you using the tables.dat file from the RC3 release?

That table was recently added.

I think so. I did a clean install with RC3 after I rebuilt my PC. Let me try again.

Well...

It's fixed now. But, now I'm a bit stumped. I thought I had installed RC3 clean after I rebuilt my PC. Maybe I installed Beta2 or RC2 first. Anyway, for some reason, when I installed RC3, the new tables.dat did not overwrite the currently installed copy. My old copy, whichever release it is tied to, was 18.4mb. The new copy is 20.6mb. I had to rename tables.dat to tables.old, then reinstall RC3 to get the new file. I'm not sure why the RC3 install wasn't just overwriting the old file. Sometimes PC's are just screwy, I guess.

Thanks for the help, Steve.

I will ask Shaun if he has his installer set to automatically overwrite the tables.dat file. It really needs to be done automatically especially in light of recent and soon to be additions coming in the tables.dat file (like um, autoExpansion tables, etc).

Another thing I just noticed.

Looking through the stats, 51 pitchers have 10+ wild pitches. 23 have 20+. This is through the first month of the season. The Association is using real players from 1946 and started in 1901.

Looking through the history of the association, a pitcher in '35 had 64 in 3 innings of work.

I wonder if the wild pitches stat isn't getting reset correctly after the season in later releases. Looking at other pitchers, the total is larger each year. For the pitcher I mentioned, these are his wild pitch totals:

Earl Caldwell
1932 52
1933 62
1934 64
1935 64
1936 67
1939 67
1941 67

The years that he wasn't listed? He wasn't in the majors.

The WP bug has been found and fixed for seasons going forward. Revision submitted to Shaun for next release.
Note: I know someone will ask this: No, can't do anything about past seasons already completed. My humblest apologies. :)

rjolley -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/17/2009 8:50:19 PM)

Good to know it's fixed going forward.

Shaun:

I tried to DL the updated "Hot Fix" for the release candidate 3 today but got an error message of "Run Time error 53 - File not found: randomad.dll". Does this mean the file is no longer available?? The release candidate installed without any issues.

Thanks

I have the same question that DNEELY posed recently.
When I tried the run the exe in the "Hot Fix" after installing release candidate 3, I got the same Run Time 53 error.

I also have not noticed any problems with release candidate 3.

dneely -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/20/2009 9:27:23 PM)

Hey Old Dog:

Thanks for posting you had the same problem! Maybe now someone will help us....

Old Dog -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/21/2009 2:35:46 AM)

Hi Dneely,

I see from your profile that I've got a few miles on you, but not many.
We'll try the ol' "misery loves company / squeaky wheel" ploy. Us old guys gotta stick together.
<creeaakk>

Shaun probably just got a bit overloaded.

Be well,

HotCornerDave -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/21/2009 6:59:54 AM)

I think I've found a new issue. If this has already been documented, then disregard.

When a team relocates, the player card changes to the new team name for season's past. For example, Jim Bouton played with the Seattle Pilots in 1969. In my association, he was in Seattle for the complete season. Seattle released him at the end of the season. In 1970, Seattle is automatically relocated to Milwaukee. If I look at his player card now, it shows that he played for Milwaukee in 1969 and was released by Milwaukee. Bouton is just one example. Every player for the '69 Pilots now have no history of ever playing in Seattle that season. They've all been converted to Milwaukee.

I think I recall that maintaining accurate history was one of the popular issues on the old poll where we each had 10 votes on what we'd like to see in the DDS version. Or maybe I'm just recalling it that way because it was one of the ideas I submitted. [:D]

Wow, 2007. I guess this issue isn't high on the fix list. [;)]

HotCornerDave -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/22/2009 6:26:53 AM)

Shaun / Steve,

We have another live one - league expansion isn't working - ref http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2246505

Will have to wait til Shaun gets back on this one. Working on HTML DOM object model isn't my area of knowledge.

Whadda ya think, DNEELY ? I think I'm just gonna say 'bag it' and install RC4.

Ya gotta pick your spots, I think.

I guess we can look at it this way....we waited long enough for a new release to happen. Patience is a virtue so they say...

Have you guys installed RC4?

Old Dog -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/27/2009 3:19:23 AM)

I just did the install,Shaun. No observations or complaints yet. The RC3 Hotfix installation itself was the only problem I had come across.

We know that you are busy. Take a deep breath every now and then. You've been knocking out release candidates lickety split for quite a while. You'll get so many balls in the air that you can't tell who's complaining about which candidate.

What's the old adage ? "Make haste slowly".

Be well,

dneely -> RE: Release Candidate 3 (9/27/2009 4:50:28 AM)

I also DL'ed and installed RC4 today. I have just begun to play with it but no problems so far. Thanks Shaun!
