moose1999 -> PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/14/2009 8:54:26 AM)

In the patch notes is says the following:

"To avoid high losses, PT TF's will now mostly evade/decline combat with enemy combat TFs during daylight hours."

Sounds good, but up untill now, at all the daytime interceptions by PT boats I have seen since the patch, the PT boats have evaded combat, no matter what the circumstances were. And night time combat has been very limited too.

I've caught unescorted transport convoys 5 or 6 times during daylight and the PT boats have evaded combat every time. I just caught a lone AKL 5 hexes off Darwin with 12 PT boats during daylight, and the PTs ran away immediately.
I've had 3 instances where I ran into very lightly escorted convoys during the night (one SC or PG escorting a bunch of juicy transports) and the PT boats have evaded combat.

All PT TFs were set at absolute threat tolerance and were commanded by aggressive leaders.

So, to me it looks like PT boats will evade combat as long as there is as much as one measly warship in the enemy TF and that daytime combat is just generally off the menu.

This is just one player's experiences, of course, so it would be interesting to hear if other players are seeing something different...

Not always..

Wasn't even trying to intercept anything , just wanted to get my PT's to java for repairs and rearmament...

moose1999 -> RE: PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/14/2009 9:33:20 AM)

Nice catch [:)].
So the PTs are still good for something in the dark hours of the night.
That's reassuring.

Now if someone would throw me an example of a PT TF engaging something - anything - during daylight hours, I'll be a happy man once more...

medicff -> RE: PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/14/2009 1:30:45 PM)

Occasionally you will get a daylight contact to engage. Several factors how many escorts are there or if SC TF(PTs attempt to decline) and if the convoy is caught unloading (usually get an engagement). If the convoy is already underway it will spot you a long distance and try to avoid.

I have seen several daylight engagements. IMHO I think PT combat is good. Forces IJN to escort convoys/amphibs and still gets a torp now and then. [:D]

joey -> RE: PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/14/2009 2:55:34 PM)

Yes PTs run away a lot more lately. I did a short test and found the PTs attach about 1/7 of the time that they did under the original version. But on the other hand, they don't sacrifice themselves against large surface fleets like they did under the original version.

Swayin -> RE: PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/14/2009 7:27:57 PM)

Mine seem to get a bit more reticent as their sys damage from the many sustained ops around the PI take their toll -- which makes sense.

joey -> RE: PT boats avoiding combat too often? (9/15/2009 3:56:38 AM)

Mine still attack during the night, but rarely during the day. They also do not seem to attack in battles that they are significantly outweighted. Althought they have turned down a few night battles when a large enemy fleet is present.
