Uh 9 But posting in the Matrix web site in the SPWaw forum might not be the best place to gage the number of players. Go start a AOL chat room and let us know how many people enter not wearing leather and carrying a whip or sheep under one arm. (SPWaW does sound kind of kinky)The important question for this location would be how many want to go online and kick some butt since the full power of this game is lost if not played against another human. ------------------ I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a differant direction!

Randy -> (11/4/2000 10:40:00 PM)

I think I'm 10, plus don't forget the Matrix staff. They made it so I hope they play it!!!

skukko -> (11/4/2000 10:48:00 PM)

11 I suppose. Downloaded whole game and videos and upgrades with 56k modem. Three nights contiunessly, received the bill, he-he: ) Bad thing I was eager to get this game, great game, but it looked like it was only way to get in Finland.

Cona -> (11/4/2000 10:59:00 PM)

12. Finland must be as far as Chile, also known as the end of the land, you know, "Fin" translates to "End" in spanish. And i downloaded SPWAW with a 33.6 conection ! If only more spanish speakers were playing SPWAW ! Saludos a todos, Cona. [This message has been edited by Cona (edited November 04, 2000).]

CF_Medic -> (11/5/2000 3:38:00 AM)

Guess that makes me 16. But i dont really play, my job is to pick up whats left AFTER playing. But hey, sombody has to do it. ------------------ Militas Succurimus

Warrior -> (11/5/2000 4:41:00 AM)

Are we talking about just "players", or total SPWaW addicts? If the latter - count me in!

Wild Bill -> (11/5/2000 4:45:00 AM)

I'm not privy to the figures. I have heard that downloads alone have exceeded 60,000. That figure was before 4.0. In addition, the number of people who got it and play it through PC Gamer or Computer Gaming World is only a guess. So what would your guess, 80,000+ who have given it a try? That sounds like a lot to me WB ------------------ In Arduis Fidelis Wild Bill Wilder Coordinator, Scenario Design Matrix Games

Viriato -> (11/5/2000 6:41:00 AM)

well 18 now , and I know about 3 other more that play the game since SP1 ;o) ... I'm from Portugal ( that little (PROUD) strip of land west of Spain ), and I took my copies of SPWAW at work in a 56k Connection in a weekend and in the midlle of the night ... how's that for addict????

Desert Fox -> (11/5/2000 6:47:00 AM)

Allright, 60000 sounds like a big number, but how many of those were started and aborted later for one reason or another? How many of those were people downloading it again, for whatever reason? And how many people downloaded it, but don't play it anymore? I am going to guess that we should probably assume more like 30000 play the game. Not that anyone should be disappointed by that number, its still pretty damn impressive for an engine older than the OS running it.

Huffy -> (11/5/2000 9:35:00 AM)

But,...who's to say...that everyone that will play, will come to the forum's room...and even post a reply... Nevertheless....I'll bet it's alot. Huffy

steel -> (11/5/2000 2:13:00 PM)

nro 21 is here ! It took isdn 6h to download the SPWAW v4.1. Greetings from: Finland.

Tankhead -> (11/5/2000 2:58:00 PM)

Hortlund -> (11/5/2000 5:24:00 PM)

That makes me what...23? Ok then. One question, is it a waste of time to try an online game with a 56K modem? ------------------ Panzerjaeger Hortlund -=Fear is only a state of mind=-

jpkeenan -> (11/5/2000 7:13:00 PM)

I guess this makes me number 24, but can you imagine how long this thread may get? I have been a war gamer for many years, but I have never enjoyed the experience more than now playing SPWAW and enjoying the fellowship of this group. All you grognards keep your heads down! JPKeenan

Lazarus -> (11/5/2000 8:37:00 PM)

well I'm the 25th. as usual. I downloaded the games at least two times ... all the game every time... how long it took to me? 2 hours every time on a T1... that's Taiwan Guys. ------------------ "The conqueror is always a lover of peace; he would prefer to take over our country unopposed." Polrbear -> (11/5/2000 8:45:00 PM)

I'll take #26, my computer wargame addiciton began with SSI's Computer Ambush.

ARIS -> (11/5/2000 9:22:00 PM)

Ok, I am #80027. But who cares, I'll try to be your #1 red nightmare on PBEM. I am wondering how many of us are non-military people like me. I guess the game is hard to figure what to use on what, if you're not an army officer. Probably a typical gamer would get confused of all those equipement and their usage.

Ballan -> (11/5/2000 9:36:00 PM)

Dont forget all the additional people who received a copy of the game eg. CD without downloading it themselves. Personally I passed the game onto at least four others. Cheers from Dal Riada

Peregrine Falcon -> (11/5/2000 10:21:00 PM)

No.13 reporting in... I dont think you dont need to be officer or any kind of military person to know how to fight battles in WAW. I am non-military person (never been in army) and I know more about rifles, tanks, aircraft AND military tactics (modern and WWII) than my friends that have gone through military training...(some are officers) Officer or no officer. Only things that you need is good knowledge about history and some learning... Thats IMHO of course - But I think this is quite valid fact
