R8J -> No WNT (9/18/2009 2:44:26 PM)

If there was no WNT what was planned for the older capital ships?

If Japan completed the planned 8-8. What was planned for the Fuso class, Ise class and Kongo class? Retention or decommission?

If the US completed the South Dakota class and Lexington. What was planned for the Florida, Wyoming, New York and Pennsylvania classes. The New Mexico class? I am guessing the Florida and Wyoming would not have made it to WW2.

If the RN completed the N3 and G3. What was planned for the Iron Duke, Queen Elizabeth, Royal Sovereign and Renown classes? I'm guessing that the Iron Duke would not have made it to WW2.

Japan had no chance in hell of completing 8-8, Washington or no Washington. The resources just weren't there.

I know that. I was wondering what they planned on doing with the older ships (along with the other navies).

Did Japan plan a 16 ship modern fleet? Or a 24 ship mixed fleet? The 8 older ships being held in reserve and most likely not seeing substantial upgrades.

There is plenty of information for the proposed/started building projects. But nothing for the existing older ships.

I think it was 3x(8+8). I forget what the age limit was. No substantial upgrades or rebuilding.

8BB + 8BC and no ship older than 8 years - and that's the most unrealistic... If enough time, they can build the 16 ships, but 16 every 8 years? [:D]

Given the arms race that was going on, and the fact that some pre-1900 Protected cruisers were still in nominal service until 1945, the IJN very well may have used them as second line or coastal defense ships (some of the old protected cruisers were actually used in this role as well as training).

Wyoming did in fact make it to WW2 as a training ship. I could see old US BBs being assigned to the Asiatic Fleet, with the proper BBs being assigned at Pearl. Older British BBs would have been assigned to the Indian Ocean or Singapore squadron.

I'm doing a no WNT mod myself and have kept any major capital ship built after 1910 in service just as I described above. Granted mine is more of a fantasy, impossible, could never happen scenario, but its all in fun.
