Hi everyone,

in WitP, for the Allied player it was a great idea to move Oil to Oz to get the Aussie supply production up to par - e.g. at first, from SRI (to make Nippon not get it), then from US.

Now, if I am not mistaken refinery capacity in Oz is somewhat limited and fuel is needed to run the (heavy) industry. Thus, should I focus on moving fuel rather than oil ?

Was hoping someone would respond as I need to be enlightened as well.

I've moved what I could to India and Oz from around Java before it became too dangerous.
A lot of oil remains in uncaptured bases.

Have managed to move all available oil from Abadan to Karachi but it's only about 12K so far.
Los Angeles has around 16K to 20K of oil but it just won't load !!!.

I just move fuel to oz. I am not generating much oil anywhere to ship! But I have lots of fuel.

A refinery turns every 10 oil points into 9 fuel points and 1 supply point (according to the manual on pg. 232). So 10,000 oil will become 9,000 fuel and 1,000 supply after you haul it to a refinery.

If the choice is to load either fuel or oil then it seems it's better to load fuel and save the time it takes to refine the oil.

I see no reason for the Allies to move oil anywhere.

Moving oil just means there's an extra step before you get supply and industry from it.  Ship fuel and it will go right into the industrial production process; I moved nearly all the fuel out of DEI to Australia and Noumea, and now ship fuel from Abadan and WC to Australia.

I think there is still a surplus available for shipping at the west coast, just like it was in WitP, and of course at the beginning there is a lot of oil generated during the early turns when you still own the SRI (Palembang etc.).

For me, right now one important question is what to prioritize for negating to my noble opponent and whether to use some of the TKs at the West coast to move oil from there to OZ. Previously, in WitP I usually went for oil from the SRI and oner ot two TK loads of oil per month from the West coast - but now if I remove fuel from the SRI and can hurt his economy and/or simultaneously reduce the fuel available for him to refuel the TFs he needs to move on against his next target, I am not sure any more. Presently, I would tend to mjk428's view, especially when looking at the refinery capacities of OZ.

Think of it this way

1) AKs transport supply and fuel and I have lots of AKs but when AKs transport fuel they do it at half the payload and twice (or more) the cost (fuel burned in transit)

2) TKs transport fuel and I never have enough of them

3) When a TK transports oil, 90% of it's load is fuel and 10% is supply

So why should I use an asset that is in very short supply to transport fuel inefficiently? Let the refineries in OZ run dry; you will neven know the difference.

Move oil *rather than* fuel-probably not much rationale for this, as PP have indicated.

Move fuel *and* oil to keep it from the Japanese-yes. Anything resource of value that you can deny the IJ forces is worth moving, so I'll pull both out of the DEI for as long as I can.

Japan has use for both oil and fuel, but oil must be taken to home isles for be of real use (local refinerys in DEI are surpased by oil production so no use for reserves there) and -if used to refuel fleet- lift again to the outposts , he can use the fuel from DEI in home isles (for HI) and locally to refuel fleets and shortening lines to the outposts...

So steal all fuel that you can, later smash the refinerys

I run fuel from Los Angeles to Auckland and then to either sidney or brisbane--same with supplies. You dont have enought tankers in the beginning to do this regularly but trust me you will eventually be swimming in tankers by late 42--mid 43.

Auckland makes a great dump point as its large enough to avoid wastage and is close to both australia and noumea. The jap ai will place some subs off auckland though so watch out.

If you get the bulk of the small tankers and AO's out of the DEI, you'll have a sizable force of fuel carriers that can move fuel from a central depot to other bases.  They're small enough to dock at nearly any port in the SoPac region as well, but they are fragile so they need escorting.
