cap87 -> saved files (9/28/2009 2:38:24 AM)

Silly question here; where do I find the saved files? I noticed there are 2 folders inside DAT, one for BOB and one for BTR but they are just empty while in game I do see several saved and autosaved slots that I wanna get rid of

harley -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 3:43:34 AM)

??

Very odd. It looks right on all my test machines. %driveletter%\%gameroot%\dat\save\BTR\save000.btr

Got a screenie of both in-game and the folder tree?

pompack -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 4:21:21 AM)

Not sure if it applies, but if you have Vista and install the game in "Progam Files", Vista will hide the save files to keep you from seeing them (I have no idea why). As long as the game is installed in any other folder it seems to work fine.

harley -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 4:41:04 AM)

ahh....

The default is to install to <driveletter:>\Matrix Games, so that might be why we have never seen the issue - everyoneon the beta team installed with the defaults.

Vista may remap the data to <driveletter:>\programdata\%gameroot%\dat\save\btr

I think Microsoft went a little "right wing" with the Vista release. I have no idea what they thought they were doing, but to an outsider it looks like they tried to lock everything down..."We have absolute power" was Microsofts slogan for Vista

mikkey -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 11:53:35 AM)

if you use Vista and the game is installed in Program Files folder try look here C:\%UserName%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\%gameroot%\Dat\Save\BOB or BTR

cap87 -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 3:03:26 PM)

nope there is nothing in C:\%UserName%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\%gameroot%\Dat\Save\BOB or BTR. I tried an advanced search but I cant find them anywhere... Any other suggestion...besides reinstalling the game? I really dont want to start over my campaign

harley -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 3:44:49 PM)

did you install under program files? we're working on the assumption that you did.

%username% is a tag that maps to the current username, so Mikkey's use of it is valid. %gameroot% is something I made up. you MUST replace %gameroot% with game folder name. Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you know, but they are there somewhere...

likely candidates...
as mikkey said - the user virtualstore (a place where vista dumps stuff that needs admin access normally) C:\users\cap87\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich\Dat\Save\BTR

c:\programdata\Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich\Dat\Save\BTR

search will not work, as if they are in either of these folders they are set to system, and may not come up in the search results.

unfortunatly they werent in programdata either; and yes I am using vista and I installed the game in program files...however I decided it to unistall it and reinstall it in the default way. I lost my saved files, but it`s not big deal

Mine happened with another game. I could reference the files in-game, but I could not get to them to either move to another program or to drag for mailing them. HOWEVER I did find that if I used Mail, it could (sometimes) find the files. Try it and if it works mail them to yourself.

BTW, the Mail program was able to find the files right where you expect: Program Files\Matrix\WitP\Save. It was able to find them in spite of the fact that they were not there when you looked in the file manually. However, be advised that I still had strange things happen even using Mail; I eventually installed the game back in the default location and never again installed ANYTHING in Program Files.

Justascratch -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 7:29:34 PM)

I must admit, staying with XP was one of those few things I've managed to do right over the last few years. Need to take a hard look at WIN7 - falling too far behind can be worse than a new MS-O/S (if there is anything worse).

Richard III -> RE: saved files (9/28/2009 7:31:39 PM)

You need to go into the Matrix BOB/BTR Program and click " show hidden Files " it`s in the interface near the top right on the tool bar...the save folder should then show up. Needs doing for all Game Savs. files.

Vista just Sucks so much, I removed it and went back to XP Pro.

CEDeaton -> RE: saved files (11/1/2009 6:27:09 PM)

I just upgraded to Win7 on a blank drive. The game seems to work, but I have a problem with my saved PBEM games not wanting to load.

I'm now getting an error message upon trying to load a save that says “The Users on this system are not authorized to load this game”.

If I recall correctly there is a second file that I read something about that the game checks for to confirm you are indeed the same user. Sadly, it's not located in the saved game folder that I made a copy of before migration and I didn't have the presence of mind to look for it and save it before I reformatted my old Vista hard drive. I think I'm screwed unless the tech support guys saved a copy of it when I submitted an earlier problem.

If this is in fact the case, I'd like to suggest that on the next patch this little hidden file might be good to relocate into the saved games folder, so that future upgraders to new (or old) OSes don't make the same mistake. With Windows 7 on the market now, and the experts saying that a clean install is the way to go, this could affect a lot of people.

PM sent to craig.

Derfel -> RE: saved files (11/2/2009 1:34:53 PM)

you should have a backup of btruser or you are out of luck

harley -> RE: saved files (11/2/2009 2:14:39 PM)

when there aren't more pressing issues, 2 file level things I have to do are "delete" buttons for savegames, and a "backup" button for the user info...
