joliverlay -> Progress Report Against the Allied AI (10/2/2009 6:58:33 AM)

The AI is sending B17s to the Ruhr and near Rome without any ability to escort. After 12 days I've shot down 800+ B17, 40 B24s and about 150 Bostons. I'm now killing Allied with about a 3:1 to 4:1 kill ratio. The AI should really minimize the depth of deep penetration raids.

I turned off the straglers view about turn 4, that helps the allied AI some, but my fighters follow the straglers behind the raid and clean up even with the display turned off.

It would be nice if the agressiveness of the AI could be reduced in the first 4 months.

I've learned not to assume I can kill the Apachies or Medium Bombers as with the old BTR. I'm also suprised that planes that are out of gas can not only attack, but also bounce repeatedly.

Dont know why by my cannon equiped 109s and 190s seem to do better agains B17 than B-26s. Anyone else notice that?

I like the game. Is the Axis AI more challenging than the Allied??

Wow, I did tone it back, quite a lot in fact.

Wow. 800+ B-17's lost in just 12 days?! I really hope this gets toned down even more in the next patch!

Hard Sarge -> RE: Progress Report Against the Allied AI (10/2/2009 5:44:07 PM)

the hassle is, the Strat that the AI picks

we are looking to rego over all of the strats and try to knock out some of the stupid stuff in some of them

again, then, the hassle is, you don't want to totally tie it's hands

the AI has to go after AFAC and Fuel, it is just when and where

funny, one of the testers was asking that same question about the B-26, and then a day or so later, came back with, never mind

so luck of the draw, luck of the die more then anything else

I'm really killing the 8th AAF raids on the Rhur Valley. I up gun 90% of my 109s and 190s, wait until the escorts break off and send 100s of fighters into the fray. I keep a few G5s and G6s around just in case. When the raids return a recall eveybody before the escorts get in range.

In Italy I mostly ignore raids that are not heavy bombers. I pick one or two a day to contest to keep the AI honest. Sometimes I guess wrong an hit the mediums, or just do it because their escorts are week.

The B26s are killing my FW190Fs, Me109G6-R6, etc.....but these are german units that started in the Med. Maybe their experience is lower or maybe I flew them with a bit to much fatigue.

Richard III -> RE: Progress Report Against the Allied AI (10/2/2009 7:57:34 PM)

In many/most of his early games Gary used dates to change the strat & tactical AI`s effectiveness against the human player. An example would be PacWar where the Japanese AI was deadly untill the date the P-38`s arrived, then with the 40mm`s on the ships and then the Hellcats/P-51`s reduced it more.

Perhaps that logic code is in BTR, and could use the arrival of the P-51`s , in numbers, before the AI starts deep raids ?

I agree, Richard III. It sounds like the Allied AI is continuously flying bombers into the meat grinder. Perhaps in a future patch this could be scaled back until long-range Allied fighter escorts are available later in the war? [:)]
