Neo -> Why aren't there any Yugoslavian or Russian Scenarios or Campaigns??? (11/5/2000 11:35:00 PM)

Why doesn't someone create one? Is it too hard or is it something else? I am trying to create one to amuse myself but it sucks playing my own scenarios. E-mail me if you have a good Yugoslavian or Russian map. . . I am also creating a Russian scenarion between the Chechnian Rebels and the Russian Counter-Terrorists. I don't know how to modify the units, and i don't know how to make my units with the grenades throw the grenades! - Neo

I take it that you want scenarios and campaigns set in Yugoslavia using Yogoslav and Russian troops, as the great campaign, Heros of the Motherland, IS a Russian campaign. There may be some scenarios already made. Check at The Depot, Fabois The Armour Site, Tankhead's SP:WaW Resources, Wild Bill's and Marauder Mel's sites. I know they have a s#$t-can full of scenarios & you may find what you are looking for, or at least a lot of great scenarios. ------------------ Robert (Bonzo) Lindsay, Coordinator 28th (North-west) Battalion Headquarters http://dreadnaught.home.icq.com nwbattalion@icqmail.com

What do you mean, no Russian scenarios? There are lots of scenarios available reproducing the eastern front. There is a whole series of Stalingrad scenarios and many more eastern front battles involving the Russians; there is also a campaign designed to be played as Russian (Heroes of the motherland). Yugoslav scenarios are admittedly harder to find. They are outside the mainstream. However, I certainly remember coming across at least one, although it may have been SP1 or SPWW2. If you are interested in developing this aspect, your best bet is to design a few yourself. I suspect that you may be unhappy with the way in which these scenarios are put together by the authors, perhaps you feel that there is a German bias in the design (in other words that they have been designed to be more fun if played as the German as opposed to the Russian). This is certainly true of some scenarios, but by all means not all of them. In the SP1 and SPWW2 days, I was unhappy with most of the scenarios including British trrops because of that. I designed my own. It's a different way to enjoy the game system. I find it more challenging than just playing one scenario after another. If you develop several scenarios, and leave them for a while after you have perfected them, it is not unusual to go back and find that you don't remember exactly where the enemy is or what are the developments of the AI's strategy. And if you produce a few good scenarios, you may encourage some of the other existing designers to try. I suspect that another contributory factor to the lack of Yugoslav scenarios is the difficulty in locating reference materials for maps, situations, OOBs etc. ------------------ Fabs [This message has been edited by Fabs (edited November 05, 2000).]

I'm surprised to hear you say this,Neo. There are dozens of Russians scenarios and one linked Russian campaign playing as the Russians, Heroes of the Motherland. Brent Richards, Redleg and I have done probably 20+ scenarios. And as for Yugoslavia, have you not played the scenario, Scen052, "The Real Thing?" Here is the background of that scenario: THE REAL THING Germany Advance vs.Yugoslavian Delay. Pirot, Yugoslavia, April 9, 1941 Hitler's march through the Balkans hit Yugoslavia with a mighty armored punch. The first hammer blow struck through the defenses in the area between the Troplica and Divina Divisions. The Yugoslavians fought valiantly against the panzers but they were not well organized. They were no match for the blitzkrieg assault. Von Kleist's command struck from two directions and searched for a crossing of the Nisava river to complete a linkup. Desperately seeking an intact bridge, a battalion of the 15th Panzer Regiment with infantry support headed for Pirot. Intelligence reported a bridge was still in place. On reaching the town, the panzergrenadiers dismounted and made a run for the bridge. Standing between them and the town was the Vardar Tactical Training College. Both students and faculty had set up strong defenses both in the town and on the college grounds. The officers took great care in setting up their two "requisitioned" Italian anti-tank guns. They had little else except a few mines and some "Molotov" cocktails to slow the German tanks. The study of warfare was now going to take on a grim reality for both students and instructors as the panzers drew near. This was the "real" thing! And here some examples of Russian scenarios: Scen001 - No Easy Place Scen004 - Moment of Truth Scen005 - The Maus that Roared Scen010 - The Agony of Doom Scen012 - Breakout from Borisov Scen019 - Kanev Scen023 - Tuetzpunkte 11 Scen032 - Slaughterhouse at Sluzk Scen034 - Pumping Dyhernfurth Scen036 - Vanishing Division Scen037 - Thunder on the Vistula Scen038 - Objective Berlin Scen039 - Last Stand at Seelowe Scen041 - Stick by Your Guns (vs Hungary) Scen053 - Beginning of the End Scen060 - Bridges of Borizov -44 Scen061 - Last Stand of the 78th Sturm Scen063 - Bridgehead #1 Scen064 - Bridgehead #2 Scen065 - The Hill Scen067 - The Dubno Disaster Scen069 - Surprise on the Steppes Scen079 - Fall of Tatstintskaya Scen089 - Ambush Scen092 - Luck and the last Knight Scen093 - The Kustrin Corridor Scen094 - Race for the Reichstag Scen095 - Gotterdamerung! Scenarios 101-105 are all Stalingrad battles. Need I go on? Of the first 105 scenarios, 28 of them are Russian scenarios. That is about one out of every four. And there are a lot more I have not yet mentioned. Fabio Prado has some great Russian scenarios as does Tankhead on their sites, with Tigers and all. So I would say, yes, there are plenty of Russian scenarios. "I am also creating a Russian scenarion between the Chechnian Rebels and the Russian Counter-Terrorists. I don't know how to modify the units, and i don't know how to make my units with the grenades throw the grenades!" Sounds like you are looking for 1990s-type scenarios. The reason these aren't done is because SPWAW is oriented towards WW2. SPMW due out some time next year is probably what you want. If you can't wait, there's always SP2/3.

Tombstone -> (11/7/2000 12:03:00 PM)

Hehe.. to say there are no Russian scenarios is madness. It's true there aren't many Yugoslavian scenarios. But I've done a little research toward making a Balkan's campaign. From what I could gather though it looked to be too easy for the Germans. I hadn't thought of a defensive campiagn as the Yugoslavians though. That would be a challenge. Maybe a worthy one. But I gotta finish my Kursk scenarios first. Tomo

Tom_Davie -> (11/8/2000 8:05:00 AM)

Wild Bill; 'The Real Deal' is really evil. That is one scenario I've played over and over and over, trying different approaches each time, but still I fell like I'm not doing quite as good as I could be. The hidden ** has a way of ruining one's day. Tom

Neo -> (11/9/2000 4:34:00 AM)

Ok ok ok maybe i was wrong but i wanna play as the Yugoslavian offense. . . Anybody that wants to work on a campaign about Yugoslavia or has started can contact me at StealthCo555@netscape.net Put Steel Panthers in the subject heading! Wild Bill -> (11/9/2000 6:43:00 AM)

The "Real Thing" is just that, Tom. Ugly for the Germans and not much better for the Yugslavians. A decisive is next to impossible in this one. We will post it when we do it, Neo, unless you do it first.
