Might want to take a look at how the AI decides whether to declare on minors. I'm seeing a lot of lapses, some due to illogical retreats, which is a separate issue, but some due to an over-optimistic sense of what's possible.

As I mentioned in another thread, I've seen DoWs where the minor could be reached only by cav (and in winter). These were not followed up on.

Worst case: Russia DoWs Naples, with no forces within reach, even by sea. How is this possible? Well, the month before, Austria DoWed Romagna, and Russia got control. So perhaps it's thinking "I can pop up a corps in Ancona in reinforcement." Unfortunately, it was Feb 1805, so no reinforcements could have been due (or corps counters purchased).... The war lapsed.

I just saw another case like my post above, this time with Spain.

Austria DoWs Romagna, lets it lapse. (Lots of lapses in 1.07 generally, so this was no surprise.) Spain gets Romagna. Next month, Spain DoWs Naples.

Now, Spain can of course invade Naples by sea, but in this case Spain had no fleets and corps in the same place, so it seems as if Romagna might have been the trigger as with Russia above.

A month or two later, Spain DoWs Rome, same result.

As Russia, I got control of both Naples and Rome. Thanks, Spain! But...that was too easy.

I am looking at the surrender issues now then will look at the AI behavior!
