Hi Folks,

Is there any consensus as to what combination of game settings might yield the best, frustration free player vs computer AI game play experience?

Just to level set... some of the things that tend to frustrate me in a game such as this are:

  • AI obviously cheating.
  • Inappropriately aggressive (ie, suicidal) AI
  • Combat results that fall well beyond the range of believability.
  • The need to apply "gamesmanship" type tactics or strategy in order to succeed.
  • Etc., etc.

The reason I'm asking is that the default combination with "historical" AI doesn't seem to provide this. I've had... experiences playing the Coral Sea scenario (about as straight forward as you can get regarding cause and effect on either side) that are questionable, at best.

As you may have deduced from the above, I'm not at all about the "challenge" of beating the AI... but more interested in achieving believable results.

I hesitate to dive into the grand campaign until I can figure out how best to configure this game to suit my tastes.

Thanks.

Coral Sea is very different from the campaign scenarios.  I think there were issues with air combat and CAP in Coral Sea that are fine in the full war scenarios.

Plus, Coral Sea has no AI. It's not big enough to work properly.

Best setting for "frustration free game play" (whatever that is) is OFF.

I recommend the 'historical' AI settings versus 'hard' or 'very hard'. See the "very disappointed" thread on the main page for extended discussion on this topic.

If you want realism, you should certainly stick with 'reliable US torpedoes' OFF.

Best,

I recommend playing a Human

Play Historical. An interesting suggestion may be to start Historical, but maybe switch to hard now and again if the AI starts to faulter too much. I have not tried that.

GUA scenario is much better than the Coral Sea ...

Thanks, I'll try Guadalcanal.
