Wrathchild -> One Last Baseball Question (10/15/2009 9:51:27 PM)

Are two teams considered tied if they have the same win-loss record? Or are there other tie breakers? It seems to be that the team that's scored more runs is listed first in the standings, but is that team actually considered to be one place above the other team?

Tie-breaking procedures have changed over the years, so my suggestion would be to consult MLB's official site or other baseball sites.

Wikipedia offers this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_tie-breaking_procedures , but I can't speak for its authenticity.

In 1946, the Dodgers and Cardinals ended up tied, and there was a 3 game playoff, which the Cardinals won 2 games to 0. There was another in 1951 (Dodgers-Giants), which ended with Bobby Thomsen's infamous HR off Ralph Branca in Game 2.

They are considered tied if they have the same win-loss record. Tie breaker series as KG said have veried over the years.
