sitkis -> Jap AG's--the ultimate ASW platform (6/19/2002 4:23:34 AM)

I am currently playing S-19 as the allied player, with the latest patch (just to try some stuff out while waiting for a fix.) As of 7-15-42 (three months or so) I have lost three subs to Jap barges.

All three subs had plenty of torps, but instead surfaced to engage the AG's with deck guns. There were no escorts for the AG's. All three were sunk by 25 mm AA guns. We're talking multiple penatrations and internal explosions from a 2.5 cm HE shell. I'm no expert on WWII era ordiance, but...no way. Either the 25 mm type 96 got wacky in the patch or something else is wrong.

Using AG's as patrolling sub killers is just weird. I pulled subs out from around Rabual out of fear of AG's. No problem fighting DD's but those barges...

I've had subs surface to shoot up AG's, but never had one sunk from their return fire. I did notice that sometimes their 25mm gunfire would "penetrate" the sub's armor, but other than a point or two of system damage nothing would happen. I've been regularly sinking 2-3 AG's each night phase from subs shooting them up.

I used to see subs take out AGs fine with V1.0. This is the first game under V1.1. A single lucky shot is one thing, but losing three subs in three months to barges is nuts. I don't think any subs survived a barge contact. The changes in the weapons characteristics with the last patch must have a typo that makes the 25mm type 95 as powerfull as a 203mm cruiser main gun, or something.

sitkis,

Same story for my sub jockies. Version 1.1, scenerio 17, two subs lost in two days trying to sink Jap AG's with surface gunfire.

The 25mm AA return fire shreds the sub, lots of pen, fires below deck, all hell breaks loose.
