Hi

Two days of 50+ Betty strikes against the allied beach head has left several AKs at the bottom of the Pacific. Mogami is trying to reinforce his forces with the Americal I believe. Heavy fighting on land, sea and air is taking place.
Mogami himself started an air offensive with 50+ B-17s striking Rabaul (arrrrrrrrrrgh!) and 30+ on my forces at San Cristabol. My guess he now has 100-110 heavy bombers on the scene and this my friends changes everything.
Dan

I wouldn't necessary give it back. But you could. Then take it back again. My question is do you think you could do it again and does U2 think there was something he could have done or not done to prevent it. Can your stategy produce repeatable results most of the time or is it a fluke. I've played quite a bit against the AI but just started PBEM.

Thanks,

Greetings, There is no guarenteed capture of Port Moresby (assuming you use variable reinforcment 100percent setting)
I have games in progress where IJN CV remain in Japan and it requires sending almost every thing back and waiting a month or two to get them released. (by which time the allies have PM well garrisoned and stocked with trained bomber groups. Also they have 4+ CV in strong AA TF. (and usally have forced their way onto Lunga and Lae since the IJN is helpless in the face of multiple CV TF and heavt bombers.
So first off Japan needs to see CV's on their way.
Then they need to engage and damage or destroy the 2 USN CV that start on map plus any that have arrived (mid June-mid July)
Rabaul begins the process with night bombing/ day recon of PM.
CV after disposing of USN CV gather at Rabaul to lend their fighters to daylight escort/sweeps of PM. Once fighter superiorty is achived the CV move down to put their bombers into battle.
Also bombardment TF should begin making runs. Use 3-4 CA in first couple (to avoid BB becoming involved in the mandatory surface battle.) Once allied surface forces have been driven away. Bombardment TF containing BB should be sent.
When PM no longer launching strikes/putting up CAP transports carrying at least 1 division should be sent. (only use 2k transports in 1 TF and 1k transports in other. (unloading and crusie speeds differant) The 3k transports should never be exposed to allies (except subs and long range air)
minesweepers should be sent once enemy surface forces removed as well as ASW groups. These TF should remain on station while transports move. (enemy subs are a very real threat to your transports do not move into PM while multiple subs are there. Lae and other bases/CV should be flying LRCAP over PM both to protect your TF and intercept enemy air transports.

U2 -> (7/9/2002 6:51:31 PM)

Hi

For the first time in over a week all is quiet around San Cristabol. No USN TFs spotted in the area and the Americal division has been pushed from the beach and has now joined the Marines north of the base. Today I noticed the first operational A/C group of P-38s. Depressing.........
Dan

mogami -> Breakdown (7/9/2002 7:47:56 PM)

"Fledlicksbulg Fledlicksbulg" the cry came through the dank night air reaching the US positions.

"What the hell are those crazy Japs yelling" A young Pvt in the 182nd Infantry Regt Massachusetts National Guard (now part of the Americal Division) asked his sgt.

"Oh their just poking fun at us for coming here after everyone in the universe excepting our brainless leader knew it was hopeless."

"You flucking GI's are so dumb you plobly kill youlselves farrng into ratines"

"Don't you dumbass know when you butt kicked?"

"We take pity on you sirry dumb sits and not kirr you. We send you to home for idiots we have near Tokyo"

U2 -> (7/9/2002 8:32:27 PM)

Hi

I have hired ESL (English as a second langauge) teachers to improve the horrible english level my japanese soldiers have. Insults must be spoken in correct English!:D
Another favourite GI bashing line is "I kill you until you die!"
Dan

mogami -> Noise (7/9/2002 8:42:07 PM)

Greetings, Dan your troops may in fact be speaking perfect english. It's hard to tell with all the racket. Please have them stop the shelling while I listen to see what they are actually saying.
Several dud arty shells have been found with messages written on them

"Yankee what do you call a New York women with one leg shorter then the other?"......Ileane

"What you call same women in Tokyo?.....Irene"

"PS you some bunch of dummies"

U2 -> (7/9/2002 8:46:37 PM)

Hi

Before departing Truk I gave TOP SECRET orders that the men of the 2nd division take humor courses which they could use against the imperialist dogs of America. Tokyo told me that the GI were not good jungle fighters anyway. Those fools up in Tokyo know nothing!:D

mogami -> Mine mine mine (7/9/2002 11:20:39 PM)

Howdy, (prepare rant) (aim rant) (fire rant)

Holy Cow!!!! Dan are there any remaing hexes east of Rabaul that you have not place mines on? Good grief at first I was shattered by the loss of my transport fleet but now I realize I can move to any base I choose by hopping from mine to mine.
It looks like one of my SPWAW battles against Tankhead where there were 3-4 rows of mines from top to bottom all along the front. I can see the Japanese military structure

Army 1.5million men
Navy 500 men
Mine warfare 3million men

every man woman child and dog in Japan must be working around the clock building mines. The underwater rail system from Tokyo to Truk with boxcars of mines unloading onto a conveyor belt feeding the relentess flow of minelayers and subs.
A giant gapping maw that mines marked "made in Japan" flow like a river and spill onto my side of the map, advancing like a lava flow from a disgruntled metal spewing volcano.
If one of my ships does a berth change it strikes a Jpanese mine. If one of my sailors on the fan tail at midnight takes a whiz over the rail he is launched into firey obvivion along with the aft end of his ship by whiz detecting mines.
I placed a paper wieght on one of my charts to examine the area and it exploded. Heaven forbid all those mines decide to say F&%$ it all at once and end life in this quadrant of the galaxy in a remake of the big bang.

(cease rant)

U2 -> (7/9/2002 11:38:33 PM)

Hi Mogami

Yes, I have mined many hexes.
Dan

mogami -> hey!! (7/9/2002 11:48:47 PM)

You forgot the green smiley face with that wide cheesy grin.

(:eek: )(me every turn when I "find" a mine

I shall remember to use it in the future Mog;) Once in the 1.00 version I lost five USN subs due to mines in one turn!:eek:

mogami -> Worst mine nightmare (7/10/2002 12:07:12 AM)

Hi, I believe my all time worst encounter with mines came during the great series of battles for San Cristabol Island in first game with Erik. My IJN transport fleet steamed in to unload and the game locked up (I thought) then I noticed the scrolling yellow text message "so-and-so maru hits mine repeated with monotny as the hands on the clock moved on. I had even sent a TF of minesweepers along but they all perished before they made a dent in the mine field from 20,000 fathoms (and reaching to near the ionosphere) Long the alarm bells rang admist the explosions that night:eek: :eek: :eek:

mogami -> Now I've seen every thing (7/10/2002 12:41:48 AM)

Greetings, OK Dan we have to post that replay so the rest of the world can confirm I just saw what I just think I saw.
Did one of your flying boats just glide in un-opposed and drop
a big noisy egg on my sub sitting peacefully at Port Moresby?
Tell me I didn't see that sucker just come in like a flying boxcar and take a dump on that sub. I'm seeing things right??? Been up too many hours and now my eyes are playing tricks on me.

U2 -> (7/10/2002 12:55:20 AM)

Hi Mogami

I can confirm that I noticed that as well but the airplane did not report any hits on the sub. Was it damaged?
Dan

mogami -> Classified (7/10/2002 11:03:13 AM)

Hi, Combat damage, location and mission of Allied naval vessels is classified. Loose lips sink ships.

Rob Roberson -> Great! (7/10/2002 2:07:21 PM)

You two are killing me :) well done!

mogami -> US siezes NG Bases!!! (7/11/2002 12:28:12 PM)

Greetings, In PBEM game Mog/Allied U2/Japan the allies have advanced up to Lae capturing all bases enroute. At Lae allied bombers pound Japanese ground forces. Soon Mid and Lower NG will all be in allied hands.

On San Cristabol Island the Japanese are pinned in their base and suffering air attacks daily while the Marines and Americal rest in luxery to the north.

mogami -> Lae Captured (7/12/2002 8:25:39 PM)

Greetings, Allies capture Lae. estimate 3-4 weeks remain in campaign to capture mid NG. supply should improve now that I have a nice airbase. (once it repairs)
In the SPac The Corps on San Cristabol continues to hold the advantage as the Japanese are withering (well they will wither once I stop those stinking barge runs)

U2 -> (7/12/2002 8:29:48 PM)

Hi

While I made the Salomon Islands into Fortress Pacific I neglected the defence of the NG bases but also failed to notice a massive buildup until it was too late. I have made several mistakes at NG from the start and I am now paying for that. One must remain focused and sharp on all areas when playing Mogami.

The situation at San Cristabol remains unchanged and they should be able to hold out for a long time (I hope).

Dan

boomboom -> mogami& U2 (8/5/2002 10:04:59 AM)

Great aar's.
I've been playing japan against the AI.I would post my aar's but the AI may be lisenning.Port Morseby is the key.I hold buna and gil gil.I'm going to try and load gil gil with suplies and fuel so bombardment tf won't have so far to go to resuply.Buna is used as a base for claudes and floatplane fighters.A hq is sent to gil gil to help with suplies.I'm waitting for infantry to arrive from truk.
Will add these to infantry and supplies already at rabal.Figure 1st week june to make my move
As japan time is an enemy.I'm hopeing to land 3 reg plus arty and aa and hq at one time.Choke off suplies,see what happens

Hi Ron,

To leave one of the greatest cities in the world for a small rural town is not easy:( Yes, it because I need to take a final degree at another University. But a new city means new bars and women to check out:D

Mogami USN vs Dan IJN
Aye, turn waiting. Let me just take away some dust and get on top of the situation first:)

BTW: Are now back online on your own computer?

mogami -> At long last (8/26/2002 1:18:29 AM)

Greetings. Persons who have PBEM games on hold may now send turn files to Farawayelf@aol.com. Replies might be delayed a bit till Oct when I will be able to resume normal 24/7 operations
But I would expect to be able to handle at least 1 turn a day while I set up. I have no old save files on my computer.
