sfbaytf -> Netbook Question (10/28/2009 10:50:17 PM)

Anyone out there tried AE on a netbook? I'm in the market for one. Atom Processor, 10.1 inch screen and 2 gigs memory. Looks like most have some shared memory video card.

If you are running it how is it?

Slooooooowwwwwwww. Also had trouble with the graphics. You have to reset the display size for AE and it will show up OK, but when you exit the desktop looks funky. Just moving around on the map was painfully slow. I like my little netbook, but only for basic internet and email.

thanks for the info...do you have 1 or 2 gigs of memory?

Just one, havent gotten around to getting another.

It sounds like you're looking at a small screen notebook.  AE does work fine on regular laptops.  I have a Toshiba laptop, it runs with no issues and runs pretty fast too.

                      I am having problems running AE on a samsung nc10 with 2 gigs ram and windows7 still trying to solve it.

I've run it on an ASUS eeePC (one of the high end 160gig hard drive models) and it seems to work fine, except for the weird way the netbook handles the screen (it uses a virtual screen that drops off the bottom of the actual screen to map the bigger display), with 1 gig memory ... seems no worse than on my laptop, either (one's personal [the laptop], one's for work [the netbook, strangely] ... hence two non desktop computers).

I run it on my Samsung NC10 with 2gb ram and it runs fine - slower than the desktop but that is to be expected and the window "scrolls" because the game res is bigger than the screen res.

WiTP Staff and Tracker all run fine on the same machine, again, you notice the lag in starting the programs etc compared to a desktop system but once they get going, no problems.

Atom processors are not showing ability to run our "corporate" software at the day job, so I would shy away from them except for light requirements such as browsing and email. Some of our test units have 2GB, so memory is not the issue, it is the Atom processor slowness.

Yes, I would look for a netbook that has a full processor. There are some out there. The screen size issue is unavoidable though.

I find that both Witp and AE work great in a VM though.
