G.Boggon -> Resizing air groups (10/29/2009 8:35:15 PM)

What are the requirements for carrier based Air units to Resize ? I have the planes and pilots but they just hang about cluttering up the ship any one know what I have to do to get them to participate in the war.

erstad -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/29/2009 11:56:44 PM)

Set the unit to "resize to fit ship" and then disband the ship it's on into the port.

I recommend making a save before you do that, in case the results aren't what you expect.

What Erstad said, for example if you do it for KB ships when they get home after PH attack those 27 Val/Kate squadrons will be reduced to 24 on some of the ships (not looking at my turn atm).

Mike Solli -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/30/2009 1:29:18 PM)

When you disband the ship in port will the air units resize immediately or do you have to run the turn first?

Historiker -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/30/2009 1:55:45 PM)

You have to run the turn

Thank you.

I believe this is incorrect. I see the changes immediately upon disband.

Pretty sure of that because I always verify I got what I want. Sometimes groups (e.g., the vals and kates) downsize a little, I don't allow that. Occasionally I've accidentally expanded a group really, really big, I don't allow that either. (Personal game play limiter - I will let stuff expand a bit to fill out the ship it's on, but I'm not going to upsize, say, a 12 plane squadron to 80 planes. )

Hmm, something to check tonight.  Thanks.

Q-Ball -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/30/2009 5:50:47 PM)

You can decide if this is OK or not, I'm just saying it's possible.....

As Japan, you can effectively expand the size of any floatplane or CV capable airgroup using this feature. This can be handy for expanding Jake, Val, Kate units. It works for any unit that doesn't have another resize-date.

Just take Ryujo and a 3-plane Val Chutai for example. Unload Ryujo's Kates, load up the little Val unit, "Resize", wait a turn, and PRESTO, it will be max 19 size, not 3.

You can do this with Jakes. For example, take Katori's lone floatplane unit; load it onto AV Kamoi, set to "Resize". Next turn, it's a 9-plane unit. Obviously you then cannot load it back onto Katori!

Also on the CVs, you don't have to resize EVERY group. You can keep Re-Size or not Re-Size based on losses. You can re-size the VAL and ZERO units to get more Zeros, but leave the Kate units alone if you like more TBs, which I do.

I'm not the expert yet, still playing around with it, but these are my initial observations

erstad -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/30/2009 10:13:27 PM)

I just reconfirmed that I see resize effects immediately upon disbanding my CV into a port. The group size changes and the operations report has entry added.

Doesn't prove that other folks don't have to wait for turn execution for some reason, but it hasn't been my experience.

Mike Solli -> RE: Resizing air groups (10/30/2009 10:15:05 PM)

Thanks erstad.  So this means you have to have the carrier in a TF to set the planes to resize?  Has anyone tried to resize while the carrier was disbanded?

G.Boggon -> RE: Resizing air groups (11/1/2009 2:45:02 AM)

Thanks for all the input , no luck so far with my Brit CVs I waited two days then sent them of to fight as they were , I will try again when I can spare them.

Well, if it's disbanded, set it to resize, and it will either resize immediately (unlikely, I think, but I haven't tried this) or you just create a TF with the CV and immediately disband it.
