wide screen problem

I just bought a wide-screen monitor (16:9 or HDTV) and now my maps are stretched out of shape. There doesn't seem to be any way to set the screen resolution in the game. Any advice? I don't care if the game fills the whole screen, I just want to play without North Carolina looking like a pregnant dachshund.
