Larry Reese -> Supplies (11/2/2009 11:31:56 PM)

I am the man of a thousand questions, evidently.

Here's the situation. For several turns an enemy has had a massive army sitting in Fredericksburg. I have Raiders in Fredericksburg, Cumberland (or whatever it is called directly north of Fredericksburg, and in Annapolis. These raiders have repeatedly destoryed 30, 40, and even 50 supplies per turn in various combinations, but the enemy never seems to be listed as "out of supply." Am I just wasting these raiders? What more would I need to do to weaken that army? Move another raider into the Potomac River province?

Thanks again,

LR

Your raiders need to be in the same province as an enemy group to have a chance to reduce its strategic supply. So only the Fredericksburg one would have had an effect in terms of supply reduction for that large army, unless any other units moving there were caught when they were in the targeted neighbouring provinces.

Some questions regarding unit supplies to the expert that are surrounding here.

I am a bit confused when reading the manual.

Troops in twon does not have any supply cost, however so far I am not able to enter corps or army within a town, I guess it is normal.

I have understood principle of supply priority, to be supplied a unit should be close to a controled province.

But how can I use forage instead of supply cost ? In emeror edition it is easy by turning each unit to forage but in FOF I have yet to understand how foraging ???

Then i guess when foraging I will no more have reinforcement ??

And is there any link between supply-morale ?

And is there any link between supply priority and detailled battles unit supply rating ?

Thanks to help a rookie :)

Be very careful placing division container units in city or forts.  What can happen is that if you lose a combat the container unit retreats - and brings all the garrison with it leaving the city or fort unoccupied and easy to capture.

Higher the supply priority means more supply wagons in Detailed Combat regardless of the logistics rating of the container units.

Low supply can lead to lowered disposition which can negitively affect your will to fight in detailed battles.

Sorry I'm not more of a supply specialist.

Yes, this is my understanding, too. Although by reading Randomizer's reply, it sounds like it is possible to have a container unit enter a city. I haven't ever been able to do this, however. The only way I've ever been able to garrison a town is by removing brigades from a container and then dropping them into the town.

I still don't understand supply 100%, either, but I read in the manual that forage happens automagically, so you don't have to assign troops to forage. Apparently they will forage if it's available. From page 162 of the e-book manual:

Each province can also provide a certain level of Supply via forage. The Forage value of each province is included on its control box at the strategic level, and indicates the number of points of strategic supply available to brigades foraging here.
Supplies from foraging are first made available to units that are friendly to the controller of the province, then to any enemy units in the province. Forage supply is only distributed to brigades with fewer than 5 levels of strategic Supply. Forage is distributed to brigades in military groups with higher-rated Logistic Staffs before being distributed to groups with lower rated Logistic Staffs. A unit that receives forage receives 2 Supply, and uses 2 levels of the province’s available forage supply.

I don't think the size of the container matters if placing it in a city or fort, only that the number of brigades in the container plus any garrison brigades cannot exceed the limits of a city: four brigades total.  Am not sure if the container itself counts.

SlickWilhelm -> RE: Supplies (11/11/2009 5:57:44 PM)

Ach, that's probably why I wasn't able to get a container unit into a city. I bet every time I tried, the container had more than four brigades in it.
