Hi gents, What a terrific game ! Just downloaded it about a week ago, received the disk and manual about 4 or 5 days later, and it's been wreaking havoc on my personal time ever since. [:)] Being a total newb I started with the smaller ‘Thousand Mile’ scenario, and thought it was a great omen when the AI and myself ended in a perfect draw. Of course I had no idea what I was doing, so like any good ex-marine would do, I just loaded up a bunch of guys on some LST’s and we put our heads down and rushed ‘em. Yep, ran right up to the beach, opened up on their coastal guns with one of our LST’s, and let the cruisers and destroyers just stand off at a distance while their crew drank beer and enjoyed the show. Hey, whatever works…..strategy will just have to wait. [:)] A couple of comments. Devs, thanks sooo much for a game where alt-tab actually works without crashing the game. Given the complexity of this game, I can’t imagine not being able to go back and forth between the game and the manual whenever needed. Nicely done. Also, I’ve seen a few posts where people mention about all the mouse clicking that needs to be done. For those that may not know, there is a way to avoid it. FWIW, I’ve been playing computer games for a very long time, and one of the neatest things I’ve used is something called a multi-function panel. Nothing showed up on a forum search for it, so thought I’d mention it because IMHO it’s perfect for this game. Essentially, it’s a small panel with a bunch of keys that you put wherever you want on the panel…..you set the keys to perform any keystroke you want (including mouse clicks)…..and you can then check bases/lists/intel reports/TF’s/etc (and alt-tab to the manual) without ever having to look at and reach for the keyboard again. It may not be worth it to everybody, but I love it. The one I happen to use is made by CH Products, and on a scale of 1 to 100 the ease of setup and learning curve to use it is about a 1. I think they’re about $180-$190 (US), so it is a little salty. But, then again, it is almost time for a Christmas wish list. Aye, this War in the Pacific stuff is very interesting. The only problem I have with this game is I have to balance it with Eagle day - bombing the reich, WW2 online for some flying action, a job, sports and a girlfriend.... They dont bring out a manual for stuff like that[:D]

Welcome Brigs to the beautiful game. Don't worry about real-life, you will learn to fit it around the game. While the learning curve is long and steep, you will find the time invested is well worth it. As has been said above; most of the questions you need to ask have been answered in these threads. Good luck, and may all your torpedoes run true (unless your playing me).

You can set up individual keystrokes (EG-a hotkey) and/or combinations of keystrokes (E.G-alt/tab). So to alt-tab to the manual, I tap one key. It doesn't sound like much talking about it, but since you physically put the keys anywhere on the panel you want, you can set them up to fit your hand. [:D]...touche taxi driver... What did you do on board? I always sought out the chiefs...I let them know I'd do whatever they needed done and they made my life easy on our little boat rides. If I couldn't get to the chief of the boat, I'd make sure I got the mess chief. I did NOT have to partake in the room temperature cold cuts for midrats if the chief was around...[8D]

Fox and Friends this morning was on the USS New York. I think it was Doocy that said that the ship was a kind of taxi for the Marines. I laughed and had to explain to my co-workers that this was not the right thing to say while on a Navy ship. I'm sure their e-mail lit up to correct the slight.

We had marines onboard because of the over sized pop bottle rockets we had onboard to trade to the subs. So unless the gunny was looking for some welding done or needed something built the only other time we saw them was during the drills and it was to our benifit to stay out of the way. They took their job very seriously when it came to protecting the nukes.
