rattovolante -> airlift picking up ENEMY troops (11/6/2009 9:34:20 AM)

In my PBeM, I had a tiny fragment of a SNLF unit being unloaded (amphibious assault) at Ambon "teleport" at Kendari. The fragment appeared at Kendari, still prepareing for Ambon, while the remainder of the unit was correctly unloaded at Ambon. I had NO ships at Kendari.

Our best guess is that Hartwig's (allied) planes somehow picked up a fragment of a Japanese unit while evacuating Allied troops from Ambon.

The fragment is apparently fully controlled by me (japanese player). Its appearance at Kendari did not cause combat to initiate (as sometimes happens with amphibious assaults, where defending troops automatically bombard)

Allied endturn save file attached

I've noticed if u have a TR with a pick up order on a base and that base gets captured. The TR will target an enemy unit at the base for pick up. I just cancel the pick up orders so dunno if u actually would pick it up. Could be an explanation of above.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Fixed in patch 2.

Walloc's explanation is correct; the group has the enemy base targeted but does not see that the fragment doesn't belong to the group's side.

Fix will check that LCU and group are on same side.

Great to hear this is fixed, but I think the explanation is incorrect.

The base did not fall in the turn in which the airlift occurred (december 23rd resolution) but only in the december 24th resolution. In other words, the base targeted by the group was still Allied by the end of the turn in which the enemy fragment was picked up.

What did happen was that the last remnant of one Allied unit on the base was picked up in that turn.
If needed, I can provide the game file of the turn after. Just let me know.

I ran the attached save under the patch 2 code without any funny fragments showing up or groups saying that they were picking up from an enemy base.

Purely for explanation.
When the last remenant gets picked up it seem that the game automaticly just picks the next unit at the base for pick up. The next unit just happens to be a japanease unit. Espcially if there are no allied units left. Then the next unit is "automaticly" japanease. Seen that too.
Any how a check on nationality should fix that too, as Michaelm found.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Walloc,

that sounds exactly like what happened. Thanks a lot to both of you for the quick help !!! [&o]
