bradfordkay -> carrier a/c multiply, reform (6/22/2002 12:23:33 AM)

I just had a strange crash with my latest game (Turning Tide scenario Aug 1 to Dec 31).

In early September I exchanged carrier strikes with the Japanese off of Guadalcanal. My ships were able to cripple the Shokaku (finishing her off the next day) while their a/c managed to put a torpedo into the Enterprise. That one torpedo caused enough damage (32% system, 41% flotation) to force the Enterprise a/c to divert to Henderson Field, where they continued to put up a stellar performance. The Enterprise TF was then sent beck to Noumea.

About a week later, the Enterprise was repaired enough that her combined system and flotation damage dropped below that important 50% mark. In the very next resolution phase the Enterprise a/c squadrons are immediately transferred from Lunga to Noumea, except for the 21 F4Fs of VF6, who instead end up at Waupuko (sp?).

With those a/c (13, 14, and 11 SBDs and TBFs) on the ground at Noumea, I check the status of the a/c aboard the Enterprise to find that there are 29 F4Fs aboard (with 24 pilots). I transferred the VF6 a/c from Waupuko to the Enterprise, and now have 50 operational F4Fs aboard. woohoo!!!!

Unfortunately, when I click on the little arrow to bring up more information on VF6 the game crashed to desktop.

Has anyone else reported something along these lines? I have a couple of saves (pre and post repair of the Enterprise) I can send if need be.

roughly similar.

Last night, I formed a transport TF from another in Truk that contained Surface Combat forces on turn 1 of Coral Sea.

When I went back to the transport force full of surface combat ships, I found an AP still there. So, I selected form TF again to remove it and it was NOT listed in that TF, but it was listed in the first TF I formed and moved it to.

So, went back to change that surface ship transport TF to a surface combat one, and that AP still showed up as in it, and it showed up in another one, as if it had cloned itself.

When I executed the turn, the problem went away.

I wonder if this related to the squadrons with too many (or not enough) pilots after a transfer problem.

Its like a ghost image of unit exists very infreguently until you press the end execute button (or it crashes).

BTW, I have experienced no crashes since 1.10. I had maybe 3 in 1.0, but that was likely because of the CPU 100% usage problem.

Gent's

Just had a similar problem. When Lex and Yorktown went into the body shop I kept their VF squadrons for use in Australia. A few months later and I wanted to use Sara to ferry them back from Oz to Noumea. I left both of Saratogas SBD squadrons and her VF outfit in Noumea and headed off for Brisbane. Two turns later I fly on the orphans from Lex and Yorktown. I look over at Noumea and the SBD squadrons had each picked up another 6 aircraft, for a total of 24 apeice. The VF squadron had added 18 more. A turn later a lot of these planes were being put in "reserve".

I unloaded the Orphans into Noumea and tried to cram the oversize Sara squadrons back onto the Sara. The aircraft mix was all fouled up with huge SBD squads and only 22 F4-f's. A "phantom" squadron of A-20's containing no aircraft also snuck up the gangway. Meanwhile one of the orphan squadrons bloomed to over 50 F4-f's. At this point I reloaded to a week earlier to avoid all this mess. Saved games available.

No evidence to back this up but it looked to me like the game couldn't figure out if these were shorebased squadrons or sea based squadrons, so it gave them both amounts and added them together, ergo jumbo squadrons. Once this happens I don't think fitting them back on a flightdeck is an option. I also wondered if the fact I was working at Noumea, an aircraft supply source, might be a factor.

Hate to be just part of the problem and not the solution but this one is over my head. By the way Matrix Guys, thanks for giving us 199 saved game slots. It's come in handy when a gremlin creeps into the database! Drop back 10 saves and punt!

Scenario #17 started in v1.11 The Yorktown was hammered pretty hard off of PNG. Most of her Air Group went ashore (Port Moresby). I pulled the Yorktown into Cairns to repair Flotation damage and unloaded the rest of her Air Group (VT-5, 1/VF-42, 1/VS-5, and 1/VB-5). I brought all of her A/C to Cairns to merge the detachments. A couple of turns later I notice that VF-42 is has 36 F4F-3's and the SBD squadrons are both up to 24 SBDs. Only the Devastator squadron is at its normal squadron. I used the Damaged Lexington as a mid-ocean airfield to get the squadrons back to Noumea (via Brisbane). When I transferred VF-42 (36 F4F-3) to the Lexington a detachment of 7 F4f-3s remained behind at Brisbane being repaired, this was called 1/VF-42. On arriving in Noumea the 29 F4F-3s were upgraded to 36 F4F-4s. When I finally managed to transfer 1/VF-42 to Noumea it couldn't merge with a unit of different A/C (F4F-4 vice F4F-3) so these 7 A/C remained a separate detachment. There were no remaining F4F-3 units so I could not disband or withdraw the unit. When the detachment upgraded to F4F-4 it received 36 of them and the merged with the parent unit giving VF-42 a total of 72 F4F-4s. So, unit strengths for these squadrons are: VF-42: 72 F4F-4 VS-5: 24 SBD VB-5: 24 SBD with 14 Reserve SBD VT-5: 15 TBD I do have a save from right before the merge showing the detachment at 36 F4F-4. How am I supposed to get the Air Group back on a carrier when the VF, VS and VB squadrons swell up like this? It looks like the carrier based squadrons take on different characteristics when sent ashore for any reason. --Jeff

Ron Saueracker -> Same probs (7/4/2002 1:15:39 AM)

My Avenger Sqdrn (VT5) won't transfer back to Yorktown or any other carrier and SBD Sqdrns balloon to twice their normal size. Big problem considering the importance of CVs and airgroups. I can't play any further until this is fixed as it effects the game drastically.

Ron Saueracker -> (7/4/2002 9:10:36 AM)

Stuck Yorktown in a TF, planes transferred no prob. I wonder if I missed this in the manual. Too many planes on board though...I wonder what will happen?:rolleyes:

Ron Saueracker -> (7/5/2002 7:43:00 AM)

Well, air groups on Yorktown are back to normal (took about a week). I'm guessing the extra a/c went back into the pool.
