OK, thought I'd check out the store and see what the improved Sterling/Dollar exhange rate meant for Crown of Glory. 50$ for the digital-download version should mean around £30 here in the UK (£30.22 to be precise).

Guess what I found? It's currently £36 - 20% more!!! And it's not like the rise in Sterling is anything sudden - it's been running at current levels since the middle of September.

Why can't Digital River adopt a real-time(-ish) conversion rate? I remember Erik(?) saying that these rates were checked on a quarterly basis but, nowadays, that's not good enough.

BTW, does anyone know if I can just download from the US store and pay in dollars? I suspect I might get into trouble for trying to evade VAT.

Same applies to Dollar/Euro. They charge 39,99 where the actually course is about $50 = €33,61.

I guess DR is doing an IP check for orders, so it's not enough to give a fake address. To outwit the system you would have to go through a VPN service whose server is located in the US, as pure proxies are way too slow for downloading large files. But then again you can't register the game on your real name.

Erm, the last three games I've bought have been from the US store. Why wouldn't you be able to do this?

If you are on a budget, everything will be updated for this year's Holiday Sale, which should start before Thanksgiving. The combination of the exchange update then and the usual discounts should save folks a lot of money on their holiday shopping.

Cheers, Erik. I'll hold fire until then. Now - just watch Sterling head for the floor!
