Squamry -> No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 9:06:38 AM)

I have both Enterprise and Hornet recuperating at Sydney. Both had significant losses to their airgroups and both got replacements at about the same rate. However whilst Hornet got all of their planes to ready status in a few days Enterprise's are readying at a rate of 1-2 every 2-3 days. I thought this was only effecting the fighter AG, but duing this time one of the DB groups got an upgrade and they are readying aircraft at 1 every 2 days.

Anyone seen anything similar or know how to fix this?

aprezto -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 9:25:41 AM)

Best repair rates to ACs I managed to get was air groups resting and ship in port. Anything else and it took more time.

Squamry -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 12:55:49 PM)

I have my airgroups 20% training and that's it. Still does not expalin why a sister ship sitting next to it readies much more quickly.

John Lansford -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 12:56:49 PM)

Does it help to offload squadrons to land bases wrt the repair rate?

Barb -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 1:10:27 PM)

I think that upgraded squadrons have somewhat slower repair rates.

DivePac88 -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 1:19:28 PM)

On you Air unit screen; right click on the Pilots button on the bottom left-hand of the screen.

There you will see the Damage and Fatigue ratings of your airframes in that unit.

Normally if one given unit takes longer to repair it's airframes than another, it is because it's damage and fatigue ratings are higher.

wdolson -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/13/2009 2:13:38 PM)

The rates between the two are probably due to bad random rolls on one ship.  There are two solutions:

1) Move the units ashore and let them finish repairing ashore
2) Wait for patch2 and the bug fix

Significantly slower.

I checkcked as Divepac suggested and the times were from 1-5 days. Trying to see what happenned I did the following:

1) transferred to shore - all became unreadied, but it only took one day to ready everything.
2) transfeered back to enterprise. All were showing as unreadied, but with 1 days maintenance when I checked all the aircraft.
3) 0-1 got readied each day again, even though it was supposedly only 1 day to ready.
4) Eventually got bored when half the airgroup was ready and set out to do some bombing of Lunga. After only one day at sea all all aircraft were readied.

Looks like all the mechanics were on shore leave [:D][:D][:D]

I will have to do an experiment when my returning TF's from Makin/Tarawara invasions return to PH. I'll disband one TF and keep the other one around to see of there is a difference in ready rates for the two.

tocaff -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/16/2009 10:28:44 AM)

Everyone is missing the fact that the USN has never stocked anything called a spanner. Wrenches yes, left handed monkey wrenches and stripped paint are in the ship's stores also.

No Spanners ay... how did they tighten their nuts up then? [:D]

Shore leave, of course.[:D]

Anthropoid -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/16/2009 4:11:16 PM)

. . . shore leave . . . [:D] that one could almost even fly in the hyper-PC US University setting.

There should be a collection of classic Matrix Forum's WiTP and AE "two-liners."

Before you transfer the planes back to CV, you need to form the CV into Air Combat TF. This way planes are flown on carrier, with very few needing maintenance. And then you can disband TF.

If you move the air unit in when CV is disbanded in port, they are supposed to lifted in with cranes and all start again under repairs.

jmscho -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/16/2009 6:41:59 PM)

You don't need a spanner to tighten nuts.
As an engineer working on the F4 Phantom, the basic toolkit did not include spanners - use a hammer and screwdriver instead! ;-)

That's GOT to hurt.

Many years ago there was a Science Fiction short story about two space ships sent to a far off galactic war.  One was British and the other American.  On the way back, the American ship got sucked into a black hole.  The British ship searched in vain for anything remaining from the American ship, but all they could find was a monkey wrench that was twisted up like a pretzel from the gravitational forces of the black hole.

When they returned to Earth, the Americans were anxious to hear any news about their ship.  The British said nothing could be found because they didn't want to tell the Americans all that was left was a star mangled spanner.

wpurdom -> RE: Squadron back on CV (11/16/2009 10:06:28 PM)

I think you not only have to put the CV back into a formed TF, but you have to undock it. At least before the last patch, IIRC it you transfer to a docked CV you disable all the planes. First you fly in the functioning planes, then you dock and transfer the disabled planes.

Wow! Didn't even know that this screen existed!!
Some many questions!!!
Do the damage and fatigue values decrease over time?
Do they affect combat performance?
Did I miss this in the manual??

That HAD to be by Asimov!!!!!!

wdolson -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/17/2009 2:11:20 AM)

I think it may have been Arthur C. Clarke.

Bill

RevRick -> RE: No spanners on Enterprise (11/17/2009 3:49:02 AM)

I don't know...  Asimov loved shaggy dog stories, and this one really unraveled the flag....  Closest Clarke came was in "Tales from the White Hart."
