I was wondering if their was any intention of ever including the Chinese River Carriers in the game?

History; In early 1942 Rear Admiral (later Lieutenant General) B Affleck came up with the idea of building a Carrier force on the Yangtze River in China. The purpose of this force was to come down the river into the Sea of Japan, and launch air strikes on military and Industrial targets on the Japanese West Coast. The Carrier Force was to retire up the Yangtze River after these strikes, thus it would be out of range to any retaliatory Japanese Carrier Force.

Three Light River Carriers were built, but sat out the war in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. As the Chinese Ground Forces never managed to take the Lower reaches of the River, thus giving the Carriers access to the Sea of Japan. Is a great pity this plan was never put into operation, as it would of caused the Japanese to lose great face.

Here is a photo I managed to find of one of the Carriers:

I do not know any thing about "Chinese River Carriers" and the winking smiley makes me think that you may be having some fun with this, but I do know that the picture is of the USS Wolverine, a training carrier that spent the war on the Great Lakes (along with the similar Sable) so that pilots could practice landings and take offs from a carrier on the water.

Fishbed -> RE: Chinese River Carriers (11/17/2009 3:15:36 AM)

Forumers are so cute... I would have guessed that "Rear-Admiral (later Lt-General) B.Affleck" would have rung a bigger bell than the Wolverine pic [:D] [;)]

Didn't he name his first born son after his buddy who stole his girl that he ended up marrying & who invented the chicken maneuver for carriers that'd throw enemies off their track?

Zacktar -> RE: Chinese River Carriers (11/17/2009 3:41:14 AM)

In fairness, Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, yo.

eMonticello -> RE: Chinese River Carriers (11/17/2009 3:42:02 AM)

It's a shame the carriers never bekin sale down the river. It would have been a bald win for the Chinese.

That's the government censor at work, removing all background to confuse the enemy.

Looks more like he put in a foreground to baffle his friends... [:D]

Well, there were planes, but if you have played as allies you know how bad the Chinese planes were. They all crashed on takeoff or landing.

Very ugly....planes taking off just before the carrier goes under a railroad bridge.

I know this is true because I heard about it on the history channel.[:D][:D][:D]

In fairness though, they do on occasion put on an interesting program.

FOW -> RE: Chinese River Carriers (12/5/2009 9:06:13 AM)

I've just realised why there are no aircraft embarked - an overzealous Health & Safety inspector has insisted on the erection of safety barriers to stop any crewmen falling off the front of the ship. The fact that it also stops planes taking off is obviously not his problem, rules are rules and all that [:D]

Antropoid while I usually find your questions thoughtful and considerate this must be your one bad day!

These were Chinese river carriers.

They carry rivers, not planes. Doh thats so obvious...

What is wrong with having erections in China. I think they ought to have free erections. After all, we have them every four years here to choose our president, and every two years for Congress. All together now, Free Erections in China!!!!!

tocaff -> RE: Chinese River Carriers (12/5/2009 4:01:51 PM)

Free erections!?!  Do you pay for yours?  [sm=scared0008.gif]

I guess I am getting old... Does anyone remember Emily Litella???

Never mind..

Rick, some of us recognized your play right off...others would have recognized if you had finished with "Oh! Never mind."

Even so, you can't blame us for making other plays on your post! It was far too enticing...

I know.. Sometimes the oulde rogue in me creeps up and just has to stir the pot..... Sort of like with LST's signature. One person in a parish told me I'm a blend of Billy Graham and Robin Williams. Don't think I'd qualify for either with any success, but it's an interesting thought. Keeps my sermons interesting, anyway.
