tiger claw -> low level attacks Bug (6/23/2002 12:13:52 PM)

Air attack on Zuikaku with 4 B-25 & 3 B-17,
i had 41 cap at 6,000 ft got through that with no loss {me 1 Zero }and then attacked my CV at 1,000 ft scored 8 hits on zuikaku , this TF had 15 ships.
The flak should have murded them with out even talking about the cap. a B17 at a 1,000 ft is a very big target! please this needs to be fixed it just wrecked my day and maybe my campain.{stop the super bombers please}

Hi, yes the level bombers are currently too good a low levels. I have this houserule both in pbem and singleplayer: Levelbombers not lower than 4000 ft. That seems to give more historical results.

John Lansford -> (6/24/2002 3:44:07 AM)

I agree that the level bombers as depicted in the game are way too accurate. Rabaul is full of severely damaged and sunken ships (including Haruna and Kongo) that were pounded into the harbor by repeated waves of B-17's and B-24's, flying at 6000 and 11000 feet. I've even had B-17's land multiple hits on single AP's while they were at sea, a feat that almost never happened during the war!

Right now the level bombers are the most dangerous anti-shipping force in the game, given their payload, range and accuracy. I'm not talking about skip bombing tactics, either; just plain old bombing runs at 1000-6000 feet usually do the job.

tiger claw -> would like a reply (6/27/2002 5:33:30 PM)

would like a reply from the matrix team just ta say they will be making a change to bombing accuracy.keep it up guys!

Spooky -> (6/27/2002 6:59:41 PM)

I am not sure that the bomber accuracy is unhistorical ...

What is unhistorical is that the players commonly set their level bombing altitude at 1,000' feet (while the AI keeps it at 6,000') ... with a risk of very high flak induced losses ;)

And do not forget the FOW, it is not because many hits are recorded that they happened :)

Spooky

Erik Rutins -> As always... (6/27/2002 10:37:40 PM)

We read everything posted here and we are looking into this and other requests. If it is a bug, it will be on the list for 1.2, otherwise if it is a design tweak it will be on the list for 1.3.

Regards,

- Erik
