harley -> Patch #1 Status (11/18/2009 12:19:47 AM)

Hey, All...

Thanks for waiting so patiently.

I've spent a lot of time over the past weeks rejigging the highlight damage/highlight planes system to make this draw a bazillion times faster, and released it to our test team last night. Well, typically something has gone wrong, so I have to go back and have another look at it. On my Dev machine it was brilliant, and my dev box is under-specced. It was even better on the Q6600 Vista64 box I run. But, as I said, something went wrong in the release build.

There's a list of other things changed/fixed, but I'll save that till I know it's complete.

So hang in, we won't be much longer.

Is "it won`t be much longer" before of after Nov. is replaced by Dec......?

Creeper -> RE: Patch #1 Status (11/25/2009 7:44:50 PM)

yes, after 1 week, i may ask for an info update, harley. Thanks... [:)]

Hard Sarge -> RE: Patch #1 Status (11/25/2009 8:20:31 PM)

were testing it, some of the bugs don't want to die out

Richard III -> RE: Patch #1 Status (11/25/2009 10:53:13 PM)

What Bugs exactly do you speak of.........?

I put 60+ hours into 3 starts of the `43 campaign in the release build I`m now sorry I bought and and didn`t see any major game play bugs, and I pay close attention. Many of the "BUGS" reported by Nick and others I never saw and were probably corrupted downloads. Or is there a Monster Campaign Game Breaker down at turn 200....?

The only bug that broke the Game was introduced in the first beta patch with the 180 degree strike turnaround.

Some of us who are not play testors want to play the game we bought, not jerk around with fine tuning abstract parts of the Games Crome. Just release another Beta using the release build and the few interface issues fixed so we can do that.

Why is that so impossible to do.....?????

The highlights I spoke of in my first post - a major issue for some players - had some issues in test, and I had to go back and review the changes. That is now done, and the new exec is in test. We want some rigour behind the test to ensure the best experience for all players.

Once it has the seal of approval it is packaged and uploaded. I don't know how long that process takes.

Richard - Why the hostility and cynicism?

You have one programmer working on this and he devotes almost all his free time to it. This new version of the game wouldn't have happened at all without a tiny group of people who pushed it through as a labor of love.

These dudes are fixing a couple of nasty problems that you should be thankful that you haven't seen. The patch is needed and without it you will be unhappy at some stage.

...and as an aside for someone else sniping at Harley for not responding immediately... those guys read EVERYTHING on this forum and act on all of it. They really can only fix one thing at a time so it takes them awhile to work down the priority list. But there is a list and, knowing these guys, they will work all the way through the list until it is done, no matter how long it takes.

Just saying, Harley and Sarge aren't the enemies.

Carlos

Richard III -> RE: Patch #1 Status (11/26/2009 1:03:40 AM)

I`m not attacking anyone, especially Harley & Sarge. I supported them & Matrix with my money. I think they are good guys and I appreciate their labor of love. I`ve tried to contribute to the board questions in a postive manner as well.

As far as me " not seeing some issues" , unless there`s a huge Game Killer Bug that will affect everyone at some point that I haven`t seen yet ( have you ? ) then why delay the fix to the 180 deal which is a Game Stopper ? HPS gets a game fix patch out in under 24 hours if it`s a game breaker, none of this "Matrix Vetting" it and then some day packaging up an installer......some day... that`s just an absurd way to do things.

Answer me this please, why is it unreasonable to ask for a quick fix to play the game with the Beta Patch, and deal with cosmetic issues that some, whoever they may be having at alater date. I follow the boards and haven`t seen many complants on that score.

Something is just not right here, but your correct, I don`t need to upset myself nor the design team.

I`ll just go away.

harley -> RE: Patch #1 Status (11/26/2009 2:58:56 AM)

You have a fair point, Richard, but the turnbacks aren't new to the patch.

FWIW, I discussed a timeframe with TPTB to release the patch, but as the highlights issue wasn't fixed the first time (it was for windowed mode, but not for fullscreen) I had to do a lot of back and forth to get it right.

One reason not to issue another "beta" patch is that there are significant changes in the current beta that some players will not get, as they don't want to use a beta patch. If we did what you suggest, then I'd keep delaying the release patch indefinately, every time i had a new brilliant idea... We can't have that.

anyway. We're nearly there. 3 loose ends to tie up, but at the moment the testers are happy. It won't be much longer.

Thanks Harley,

And Happy Thanksgiving even if you don't celebrate where you are at.

mikkey -> RE: Patch #1 Status (12/2/2009 9:54:57 PM)

Harley, can you change default primary sorting column in "Add Bomber Units" and "Add Fighter Escorts" windows to column "Range" instead column "Unit" (like in "Pick Lead Unit" window), please? Thanks!

harley -> RE: Patch #1 Status (12/2/2009 11:21:44 PM)

I can, but not in patch #1 as the change list has been closed off. I thought it was Range, but I am probably confusing it with the lead unit page...

mikkey -> RE: Patch #1 Status (12/3/2009 2:16:12 PM)
