4battalion -> Vietnam scenarios ? (11/19/2009 4:25:57 AM)

Hi guys,

New to TOAW111.

I would like to play an interesting and challenging Vietnam scenario as a single player against the PO.

I notice there are quite a few Vietnam scenarios available.

Could somebody please recommend an enjoyable well balanced but challenging scenario.

Thx

You might give Campaign for South Vietnam a go. It's my favorite Vietnam scenario and I've tried several. I helped Curt Chambers playtest it and I feel it's balanced enough to play. You might not like it when some primative VC unit with bows and arrows shoots down one of your B-52's ( which cruses at greater than 30,000 feet ) but that's a problem with the TOAW III game engine and not the scenario. The map is a beauty to behold and the number of units deployed at any one time is managable and I love the charts and tables that are part of the map. This scenario has all the markings of a classic. Can you tell I like it a lot? If you don't have it already send me an email ( at larryfulkerson (at) yahoo (dot) com and I'll mail you a copy of mine. Enjoy.

EDIT: Curt and I were playing PBEM and I'm not sure the PO is tweaked just right yet. Curt mentioned that sometimes strange things happen ( like when the Allied PO invades Laos or Cambodia ). Anyway, William Underwood asked me for a game of CSV about 4 months ago....maybe he still wants an opponent. You can find him at waunder(at)hotmail(dot)com. Or you might want to consider yourself a playtester for Curt. You could keep detailed notes etc, like an AAR sortof, and keep Curt informed on your findings. It's more fun than it sounds.

Thanks for this.

However I am not yet ready to embark on a pbem game. I would rather get up to speed agaist the PO first.

It does look like an excellent pbem scenario though.

Once you get to grips with TOAW you may want to try Boonierat's Vietnam Combat Operations series, designed for play vs VC PO.. very challenging

One I want to take on but when I look at the map I always get a headache! I don't know where to start :)

Many thanks Silvanski.

I checked it out and it looks great. Exactly what I am looking for. Historically accurate and plenty of immersion.

I do like a challenging game and if the PO is okay this series will be very interesting

Thanks Boonierat. Will do.

I am half way through the first in the series and it is very enjoyable.

I particularly like the missions you have created.

I believe I've followed the directions in the Readme file for installing Volume 1 of Vietnam Combat Operations correctly. But when I open the directory, it isn't listed. And when I manaully select the Modern Asia folder and go back to the scenario list I get an error message, "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". What have I done wrong?

cesteman -> RE: Vietnam scenarios ? (12/2/2009 6:52:43 AM)

Hmmm. I don't know. You have to put the .sce file in the asia folder and the .egp in either the graphics or the alt graphics. Go back and find the ones you already put in there delete them and start over. That's about all I can offer.
