Hi all.

Finally had the money to buy AE. What a great game... I do, however have a few questions...and a couple of suggestions for the eventual patch.

Well, it is now the 7th of January 1942 (making the war a month old) in my scenario 2 game as Japan against the AI. (Just to learn the game before taking on a live victim). My PH attack was a major success (according to intel... I refuse to cheat and load the game as the allies...) 7 of the 8 battlewagons are sunk. Also, Force Z has been destroyed. So, 9 battlewagons knocked out of the war on the first day of fighting:) Kongo took a torpedo hit though, and is now repairing for the next month and a half. I'm a conservative player, believing in attacking on a narrow front with concentrated force. This goes for naval ops as well...

So, losses so far are really one sided. According to intel I've sunk:

8xBB, 1xBC, 1xCA, 5xCL, 13xDD, 5xTK, 2xAO, 21xSS and various other cargo ships and patrol crafts.

My losses are:

1xCL (the Katori took a torpedo and went under... not the biggest loss) and a handfull of cargo ships.

Hong Kong has fallen and the Malaya army has withdrawn to the Jahore straits and Singapore.
In China, we're fighting bandits, clearing our rear areas. Ichang and Nanchang still holds against the chinese hordes.

Sarawak, Brunei and Northern Borneo is in Japanese hands, as well as large parts of northern and southern Luzon. The port of Davao on Mindanao has fallen to the Japanese as well as Guam and Wake. Now, I'm playing scenario 2: Hakko Ichiu (sp?) so, i get an OOB that is unfamiliar. I have an incoming 21st Army, made of several guard divisions, incl. an armored one, an amph. brigade and three good base forces. Now, what to do with this army? I thought about sending them to Burma and later India, but looking at infrastructure between Burma and India, a land war against India from Burma is impossible acc. to Gen Tojo and the high command. So, do I use these precious units against the americans in the pacific, or bolster southern China for an early I-Chi-Go (was it?) Looking at infrastructure again, it is clear that the Japs will never have a railroad all the way from Singapore to Pusan, which we should have, with me in charge:) Or do i send them to Northern Oz to secure the flank of the SRA? Where do you guys deploy the 21st Army?

Second, I'm trying to expand factories, esp. of the Ki-43c and A6M2, believing air superiority will win us the war. However, one of my factories in Japan, located at Maebashi, is producing the A6M2 at 56 a/c pr/mth and I've ordered to double production. However, the factory isn't repairing. How so? Honshu is full of supplies, so what is wrong, a bug?

Third, how come the AC capacity of my CVs is lower than IRL, IIRC? (Soryu and Kaga) and how come the Soryu and Hiryu airgroups wont resize to fit the ship? What are the requirements for the resize to happend?

Fourth, I'm producing 190 tanks pr/mth and I'm wondering if this is enough?

Fifth, what is the purpose of selecting HQs for my ships? All ships started out assigned to the Combined Fleet. Now, I've consolidated my fleets and organized them as follows:

1st Fleet - Battlefleet - the battlewagons (minus the Kongos), the Mogamis, and the Fubukis (Hiroshima, later Singapore)
2nd Fleet - Blocking Fleet - a handfull of CAs, CLs and several DDs (Samah, later Saipan)
3rd Fleet - Escort and Transport Fleet (Between Singapore - Japan, and E. China- Japan and Japan itself) - TKs, AKs, DDs, a couple of CLs and TBs, PCs, PBs, SCs and well a lot... (Takao, later Manilla)
4th Fleet - Islands - nothing but a few support vessels
5th Fleet - Blocking Fleet - 2xCLs and a few DDs - (Ominato)
6th Fleet - Subs - all SS' and AS' (Kwajalein)
8th Fleet - Blocking Fleet - a handfull of CAs, CLs and DDs (not yet on station, later Rabaul)
9th Fleet - Mine ops - all minelayers, minesweepers and minetenders (not yet on station, later whatever, maybe Babeldoab)
Combined Fleet - the two Mobile Fleets - all CVs, CVLs, CVEs, the Kongos, 2xCAs, a handfull of CLs (the ones that upgrade to CLAA) and all modern Kagero and Yugumo DDs (Hiroshima, later Truk)
Southern Fleet - Escort and Transport Fleet (between various SRA and Singapore) - TKs, AKs, DDs, PBs, SCs and well a lot... (Saigon, later Singapore)
Southwest Fleet - Blocking Fleet - a few CLs and a few DDs (not yet on station, later Soerabaya)

Now, organizing my fleets took me hours... And, for what reason? What is the point in assigning an HQ other than Combined Fleet to my ships?

And last, acc. to my Chief-of-Staff, General Tojo, I'm running a deficit in merchant yard capacity. Should I increase merchant capacity?



Those were my questions, all answers greatly appriciated.

Now, for a suggestion for the/an upcoming patch.

1. Please include all escorts in the automatic convoy system... E, DDs, DEs, TBs, PBs, PCs, SCs etc.
2. Could you add a troop move delay, like message delay that I can select what delay I want. Right now, I must select .5s message delay in order to see where my troops are moving, but this slows down the execution of the turn as I must then watch all messages, when I'm only interested in troop movements.

And last, but not least, thanks for this great game. I'm unemployed, so I've made WitP - AE my career:)

Factories need 10,000 supplies in the city to start repairs. Also, I've encountered a bug that prevents any factories anywhere from repairing as long as one of them does not have enough supply.

You can look at your losses and replacement for various vehicles ahnd weapons, and decide for yourself, whether you build enough. You also can expand factories, then halt some of them, if you have a big surplus.

[X(][X(][X(] are you serious? if one factory on the map has not enough supplies to repair, all other factories with enough supplies donīt repair either? Are the devs aware of this?

I don't know if anyone else had encountered this bug, but in my game no expanded/repurposed aircraft factories were repaired until I've transferred enough supplies to Maebashi, which is the only place where I've made changes to production and which does not have 10,000 supplies at the beginning.

(Also repair on reseach factories is glacially slow, if it happens at all, but I assumed that it is WAD, to prevent quick concentration of reseach on key planes.)

I have never encountered this "bug". All repairs or expansions of factories require 1,000 supply per point. You can alter the supplies present at a base on the base screen. The "supplies required" button increases in 1,000 increments.

As for the OP's question about Naval HQs, my understanding is the naval HQ that a ship is attached to makes no difference, as far as I know. A naval HQ located at a base, increases naval support, therefore loading and unloading. Moving a particular ship between naval hqs has no benefit as far as I know.

That is WAD. You'll see the repair occur faster the closer you get to the production date.

thanks guys for the replies. I've now adjusted the "supplies required" at Maebashi(sp?), maybe this will help. Time will tell. I surer need those A6M2s though...

Don't believe ship losses propoganda.  In my PBEM game I lost two battleships at Pearl Habor, but my opponent's list showed at least five.

FOW works in both directions. As I noted after checking what was going on the opposing side after playing through Guadalcanal campaign, one torpedo hit at sea is often enough to put anything, up to and including Yamato, on "sunk" list, but great many bombed ships that sank later (Japanese xAKs are particularly bad in this area, one 500+ lbs bomb hit outside of port is almost always fatal to them) weren't on the lists.

Hi again.

The "bug" was no bug at all, just a lack of supplies. I've adjusted the supplies required at the bases, and now my factories are repairing again. Banzai!!!

As for the allied ship losses, I think they are mostly true... I raided PH three times (Yamaguchi in command) and the list of battleships attacked decreased for each attack. Initial reports indicated that all battleships had been lost, but one has been taken off the sunk list, meaning the Americans have two battleships left, one needing a year or so at the repair yards, the other lone one will be no match against our Betty's. The brits also have one battleship left, the Warspite. Location unknown.

I "almost" got one of the US carriers in to-be-battle with the KB, but the battle never happened. KB sailed in the wrong direction. Damn.

Now Percieval has withdrawn from Malaya, leaving the road to Singapore open and unopposed. 25th Army is preparing for the assault on Jahore Bahru(sp?). On Luzon however we are meeting stiff resistance, but with air superiority, the Phil. operations are not that important.

Unfortunately, I'm "short" of one aircraft factory. With no factories availible to produce the Glen floatplane, I'm hoping that the 16 I have in the pool will last for a long, long time... Also, why is there such a shortage of transportplanes for the japs? I'm using the converted Ki-21 for transports and there are substantial squadrons availible for the army, but for the navy, nah, almost nothing. And last, how come the L2D2 isn't availible from start? Wasn't this plane license built with license from the Americans? I suppose that trade agreement was made before the outbrake of the pacific war, and not during war, in 1944?

Anyway, I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooo enjoying this game. It is my favourite strategy game, and playing the AI I can play at my own leisure. I've decided to use the 21st Army against Java in cooperation with the 16th. And afterwards, we're invading Australia. I just saw the movie Australia with Nicole Kidman (a what a cutie) and it inspired me to attack and occupy Darwin. So, northern Oz will be taken for the glory of the Imperial Japanese Empire and our Greater-East-Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Banzai!!!


PS. Thanks again for helping me get the industry working out. And thanks to the developers for adding the WITP Staff tool with AE. Without it I doubt I would have been a tenth as efficient in my war planning.
