ShotmanMaslo -> Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 12:24:31 PM)

Hi folks!

I heard about this game only recently, but I am deeply interested. As of 2009, there are no good turn based space strategy games with hotseat option, so I would definitely buy this one when its released. What I would like to know is how this game would compare to other space 4X turn based games, especially Galactic Civilizations 2 which is my favourite (too bad it doesnt have multi/hotseat support..).
All you need to do for me to buy the game is an enhanced Sins/GalCiv ripoff with hotseat/multi.. :D

Neverthless, there are couple of suggestions of features which I would like to see in space TB4X game.. So let the brainstorm begin:

- naming ships/stations/planets
- Temporary cloaking for ships and anticloak technology (tiberian sun anyone?)
- carriers and strikecraft - fighters and bombers, special anti-SC weapons type
-asteroid fields, nebulaes and "space weather" that have some tactical effects(only fighters/bombers and frigates can navigate them, caps and cruisers cannot)
-Diffrent gas clouds alot like armarda
some that drop shields.. some that increase shield regen or interfere with diffrent kinds of weapons.
-minor races like in GalCiv 2
-artificial wormhole/teleportation technology
-space mines, minefields (explosive, not resource :D)
-diverse special ship abilities like in Sins of a solar empire
-giant space stations
-constructing stations and defenses with constructors in all (even enemy) gravity wells

I was unable to find a release date on the product page here http://www.matrixgames.com/products/376/details/Armada.2526 so I hope its not too late to maybe add some of my suggestions, if developers consider them worthy.. :)

Iceman -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 5:06:18 PM)

- You'll get that in BotF2 when it is complete
- Armada 2526 has cloaking technology; Lost Empire: Immortals and BotF2: Supremacy too
- Armada has Carriers and Fighters; LE:I too (plus bombers and drones, and anti-SC guns)
- Armada has asteroid fields that allow mining, and nebulae that are just fluff, plus dust clouds that affect movement; LE:I has nebulae that affects system composition; BotF2:Sup has space bodies that have tactical effects (black holes, neutron stars, x-ray pulsars, etc)
- LE:I
- LE:I and BotF2:Sup
- Armada 2526, BotF2:Sup
- ughhh! [;)]
- LE:I, BotF2:Sup
- LE:I
- BotF2:Sup

The game has been pretty much released, but in some places only.

ASHBERY76 -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 5:14:53 PM)

I only minor races done well in a 4x game were in BOTF because they gave buffs,had their own story,ships and you could politically annex them without a shot fired.

ShotmanMaslo -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 7:23:49 PM)

BotF2 is looking interesting too..

Why dont you guys combine all these (and other) good elements from different games into one single uber-game? That would be truly orgasmic.. [sm=00000436.gif]

and whats with "..ughhh!" ? :D

Iceman -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 10:06:36 PM)

Each game has its unique features. It's good that way IMO.

Minefields in space... ughhh! [;)]

ShotmanMaslo -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 11:11:50 PM)

Well.. Minefields are technically no different than other static defenses.. Whats wrong about them in space? (3D minefields, ofcourse.. like in Stargate)
..and it works in Sins :)

Iceman -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/21/2009 11:16:36 PM)

Hmm, we'd be here all night discussing the validity of having a minefield covering all approaches to a *system*, and how the *defenders* can run it and not the attackers. In space. static defenses shoot from afar, they're not triggered on contact or proximity.
[:'(] Let's not go there.
Stars! also had mines, and that was a fantastic game. Sins, wouldn't know. Tried the demo for some time, and put it aside immediately.

Zakhal -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/24/2009 4:34:04 PM)

VGA Planets. That game was all about mines!

Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain...fairly effective!

Janster -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/25/2009 2:07:20 AM)

Having played a 100+ rounds in a single game, I have a few suggestions.

- Moving my entire army in formation, would like to see this
- Make me able to purchase buildings even if I have no money, so that they start when I can pay for em, this saves me having to revisit planets, same for lack of population

Given, I played the tutorial or parts of it, but I haven't read the manual..prolly should ;)

Have you tried click and drag to select multiple formations?

I am able to do this here, it just starts building once the funds are available.

Tom_Holsinger -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/25/2009 2:49:50 AM)

A more legible manual would help a whole lot. If it will be *.pdf only, there is no reason whatever for usiing itty bitty font sizes. Give us something we can print and read without having to use a magnifying glass. The manual as given is so inexcusable as to be offensive. I'd rather have the Microsoft Word proofs of the manual before it was shrunken.

That's good news. After reading Janster's post I was hoping that there was indeed a way to prepurchase buildings if funds or population is low.

Honestly, this is the first time I've seen someone so disappointed in one of our PDF manuals. Are you aware that it's zoomable and that you can choose how many pages you see at a time on the screen and how zoomed in you are to the page? Or are you going by the print-out? Was that printed out on normal size paper or something smaller?

Regards,

- Erik

Tom_Holsinger -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/25/2009 4:51:30 AM)

The printed manual. My wife printed it at Kinko's on one of their color printers.

Ctrl + a seems to work too.

Iceman -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/25/2009 3:13:08 PM)

You can only queue structures that you can build at the time you set them (you cannot queue Light Industry and Research Lab for instance, if you do not have a Light Industry already); you also cannot queue structures for which you don't have the space available (due to pop count).

Tom_Holsinger -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/26/2009 4:28:58 AM)

The game desperately needs an on-line database text file with full information on all buildings, technology, ships and races. Some of this information, particularly including the races should have been in the manual. [:-]

Iceman -> RE: Suggestions Thread (11/26/2009 2:46:35 PM)

Unfortunately, the test team did not have access to the manual.
