Al Boone -> Seaplane count against airfield overstacking in 1094 beta? (11/30/2009 7:54:51 PM)

In response to an earlier query I was told by one of the developers that the latest patch would omit seaplanes from group and engine counts to establish airbase overstacking. This change was agreed to be relevent since seaplanes do not physically occupy airfield space and administration. In reviewing the 1094 beta notes I see no mention of this change being made, at least in the beta version. Has this been corrected?

Amphips and float planes may operate out of coastal hex level 0 airfields (with tenders), so I assume they're exempt from the restrictions applicable to their land based sisters.

dorjun, I agree, but that is not how the game has treated the situation prior to 1094 beta and maybe not corrected in this latest patch release.

Al, I think you're right.  I did a quick test and it would appear something is rotten in the State of Denmark.  And I don't mean Terminus!
I'm going to look into this further.

Bump!
Please, any comment by developers. This does not seem to be a trivial subject!

I thought seaplanes have always counted against stacking limits of any base unless tenders are present and this is how it should be. These planes are very subject to damage on landing and require at least as much engine maintenance as any other airplane. The old seaplane hangars at Corpus Christi (circa 1940) are BIG.

The current air field stacking code is broken but being fixed in patch 2. See michaelm's explanation here.

What seems to cause a lot of confusion is that there are 2 conditions being dealt with relative to airbase support. Aviation support is treated separately from overstacking. Aviation support deals with aircraft maintenance, preparation, arming etc. Overstacking deals with the geaographic and administrative capacity of the base. People keep wanting to lump the 2 together which confuses the issue and rules understanding and interpretation.
