Doesn't play well with the Matrix games version. It seemed to work the first time but it crapped out after that. Hangs at loading. Might be something with the installer. If somebody gets it working, posting exactly how you did it and where you installed it might be helpful.

rmielech -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/10/2009 5:30:25 AM)

What you've got to do is go to the Slitherine forum and get the non-installer version of the mod. You just unzip it over your Matrix version and it seems to work. You won't be able to play the original, though. If they fix the installer so it works with the Matrix game, you can wipe everything, re-install, and then run the mod installer. You'll have both versions then.

Udet -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/10/2009 9:35:54 AM)

rmielech, do you have a link to the non installer version of the mod? I have looked for it, but maybe I am too stupid to find it.[:(]

I have the same problem with the locking up. If you go to your documents and delete the CEAW Grand Strategy folder for the game it will load up the only thing is its where your saved games are so save your games in a different place. Also you have to delete it every time you want to load it again.

Wolfe1759 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 3:56:01 PM)

I was having problems with installing over the matrix edition but all has now been solved.

Make sure that when you install you point the Slitherine instaler to the location you have the Matrix version installed.

You will also need to copy and paste some updated and corrected scenario files.

For more info have a look at http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=117812#117812

Hope this helps

Moltke71 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 6:02:39 PM)

Malech's solution didn't work for me. I did point the installer at the Matrix directory.

With all these efferent solutions, could somebody please write a step-by-step process?

Evidently, Slitherine is doing a hotfix today or tomorrow. I'll do clean installs - again - when that comes out.

lpoolrat -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 7:33:04 PM)

Im not an expert and maybe its something you should't do but i was having the same problem, loads 1 time then locks up while loading after that. But i have been playing for 2 days with no problems. Go to your start menu find your documents  and delete CEAW Grand Strategy folder. It works for me that way. But as i said earlier you have to delete it everytime you want to reload the game. Seems like it recreates it somehow. Also i save my games on the desktop it seems this folder is where saved games are.

Moltke71 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 8:47:15 PM)

That makes sense with what they're saying on the Slitherine forums.

HR2 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 9:59:36 PM)

none of it works for me and I need a simple solution..or step by step:)

really want to play too.

HR2 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 10:16:52 PM)

btw..I was a beta tester for slith on it..got the game and a CD..but I'm so lazy with patches etc and looking for the pile of games I have that I re-bought it from Matrix last night (ahem:) just to play this addon..so getting crackin' Erik:)

Moltke71 -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (12/11/2009 10:33:00 PM)

Slitherine may hat a hotfix tomorrow. I do d/ls and have uninstalled an re-installed the original and patch three times in the last 30 hours. I'm ;eaving the d/ls on my desktop until the fix is out. I like to play games, not work on them.

canuckgamer -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (1/12/2010 2:16:56 AM)

I hadn't looked at Commander Europe at War for a year but yesterday saw at the Slitherine site that there was a free Grand Strategy Expansion and that the latest version is 1.12 as mine is 1.06. Anyway, I patched to 1.12 and installed the expansion. When I tried to start the expansion a message comes up "Windows is searching for java.exe..............." and it just keeps searching and searching so I thought I would check out this forum for answers. After reading the posts here, I am now confused. Is there a fix for this which a computer neophyte like me can understand? I noticed that the previous post dated mid December says something about a hot fix coming shortly. So what is the current situation?

IainMcNeil -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (1/12/2010 10:17:41 AM)

When you install you must navigate to the folder you installed the original game to - our installer only auto detects our (Slitherine) version 1.12. You have to manually locate any other version.

Thanks, installing it to the folder where my Matrix version of CEAW is did the trick. Had a quick read of the Grand Strategy manual and played a couple of turns of 1939. Very impressive achievement by the developers, the game has been reborn. About the only significant thing on my wish list would be support for widescreen resolution. I have my widescreen monitor set at 1680 X 1050.

A couple of questions and comments. It appears that the DOW loss to French and British units in France of 20 pts. is permanent until France surrenders unlike the Polish drop of 10 points which the rules indicate is for the first turn of invasion only. I say until France surrenders because later on the game when the British return to France by invasion, I would assume they no longer suffer the 20 pt. loss. Just a clarification of the Axis in North Africa. If the capacity for Axis in North Africa is say 8, does that mean that two Axis units each burning 4 supply pts per turn reaches that limit?

When I point my cursor on the very right side of the toolbar to the North African info, the text identifying that part of the toolbar only appears for an instant. This is also true for the Italian transport and amphibious info which is just to the left of North African info.

The surprise efficiency loss after a DoW in a ONE TIME drop in efficiency. If you rest your units then you regain 5 efficiency. So the French will regain lost efficiency if you let them rest. But quite often the Allied player moves the French units and then you won't increase the efficiency. The same happens to the Poles.

The North Africa supply capacity shown in the upper right corner shows the REMAINING capacity. As long as this number is 0 or higher you don't pay anything for overuse. Since each Libya port contributes with 5 it means you have 15 capacity when Italy joins the Axis. If the shown capacity is 8 it means you're current using up 7 per turn. The user manual shows how much capacity each unit spends. The manual also shows what contributesto the North Africa supply capacity.

The problem you're describing was something a few of our betatesters experienced and we didn't figure out why it happened. Low available memory can be one reason. How much RAM does your computer have? Do you run other programs at the same time as GS?

canuckgamer -> RE: New Free Grand Strategy Expansion (1/15/2010 10:20:34 PM)

Thank you for the reply Borger. I currently have CEAW installed on my older machine which is a 2.13 GHZ and 2 GIG of ram. I could install it on my new PC which is a 3.16 GIG Dual Core with 4 GIG RAM. Only thing is that the new PC uses a widescreen monitor set at 1680 X 1050. The game graphics are stretched out on the w/s monitor and do not look as crisp as it does on the old PC with the 4 X 3 monitor. Anyway, just to repeat, great job by all the developers on the Grand Strategy mod!

This should be placed in the Mods forum or stickied. Thanks.
