http://www.microsoft.com/surface/

A team has already has used it for D&D: http://blogs.msdn.com/surface/archive/2009/12/08/bringing-d-d-to-microsoft-surface.aspx

Now I just need to find a spare $12,500 to buy one.

Am I the only one who thinks using a mouse seems just so much easier?!

Well you're right about that, but the point of this project is to investigate possible future developments. Here you have an example of how you *could* play a tabletop RPG game, with all the characters and maps and so on: http://vimeo.com/7132858
It looks... cute. But you never know just what the future will bring with things like this.

that's all one needs a monitor with more fingerprints than what the kids already put on it!

No Hertston - you are not alone. However, the world is all about gadgets, regardless of whether what is being invested in and built is surpassed by it's predecessor.

I saw a report the other week about a car being controlled by an iPhone.

I know it's about research and ability...but it horrified me. I thought about all the arseholes on the road right now, behind a steering wheel... and I let them drive their car by their iPhone and therefore took away any perceived personal dangers from them (as they are not in the vehicle) and it just horrified me.

At least I have only 40 or so years left...[:D]

Reminds me of that computer from Minority Report (awesome movie)

I can't help it....but that demo almost made me want to go to sleep. I've never seen anything so cumbersome, slow and ugly looking

Maybe one day...but from that demo, it looks like it's got an AWFUL long way to go.

That will takeforever still. There is propably thousand quirks to fix before its ready for mass market.

But you could do similar game for say T91M tablet-notebook. The screen is a bit smaller but othervice it has multitouch screen that can be set up like a table-top RPG. I even thought about buying and coding such rpg program for T91M but the machine is full of problems (i.e its slow and underpowered) so even that is not possible yet.

Ill wait and see if they can develop a working multitouch tablet-notebook first.

Check R.U.S.E.

In comparison with a high-resolution laser-mouse, where one barely has to move his hand anymore, a touchscreen would be more 'natural' but fairly inconvenient for gaming.
