OberstCrow -> Another newbie needs help with SPWaW (6/27/2002 5:17:33 AM)

While playing the Omaha and Utah Beach scenarios, I cannot access the 16-inch naval guns or my reinforcements. I have read the manual (and re-read the manual). I do not know what I am doing wrong and it is more than a little frustrating not to put into play my airborne reinforcements at Utah Beach. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Quick question ....Did you hit the "B" button on right side of battle screen ? If so were 16" greyed out at that time ? Have you fired any of your off board guns ? I forgot my manners welcome aboard OC hold on tight your in for a bumpy but enjoyable ride on this forum. :) :) :cool:

OberstCrow -> (6/27/2002 7:48:32 AM)

Thanks, Chief. Yes, I did push the "B" button, no luck. Sure wanted to see what a 16-incher would do to a coastal gun.

OC did you fire 16" before, if so wait till they reload them and they become available again. Remember a turn is approx 2-3 minutes in real time and 16' rifles take a long time to load. Bet they come on line soon, if your not out of ammo and target is in range.:) :cool:

OberstCrow -> (6/28/2002 12:34:23 AM)

Never could get them to fire. Like I said, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

chief -> OK now it comes out (6/28/2002 12:59:14 AM)

OC; I just checked the Omaha, the author put no 16" rifles (not guns) in scenario hence no can shoot, you can't add unless you've used the editor and I'm not familiar enough on that subject. Ditto for reinforcements, if not in canned scenario save the troops you got cause they ain't nomore nohow. Also checked Utah same same problem. Sorry about that guy but that's the way the beach sand crumbles.:( :rolleyes: :cool:

OberstCrow -> (6/28/2002 3:23:58 AM)

Thanks anyway.

Chief, I was wrong, the unit in Omaha beach was a 14" naval gun, not a 16" naval gun. I went to unit list on the tool bar and it is the second M0 unit, near the end of the list of all units.

The reinforcements are in the canned Utah beach scenario. They show up on turns 1-4 and consist of infantry, armor, arty, airborne infantry, and engineering armor (tank dozer).

Thanks.

OC: I finally saw problem....OMAHA..roster shows 14" rifle but when you try to find it on B button it's a no show.

Now on the Utah, the 16" Naval rifle (BXO) is listed as imobilized immediately, whether or not it becomes available is up to game gods. Reserves are not available until turns 8 &9 and then again at turns 12 thru 17. Again they may or may not show up when scheduled, the high command may have shifted their landing beach, again the (mis)fortunes of war. This info is available on the UNit Roster screen on the right side of battle screen. You can't call up reserves yourself in a canned situation scenario even though theres a button f? that says do you want to or something like that.

Now did this help any ?

OberstCrow -> (6/29/2002 11:28:51 AM)

Yes sir, it did. At least now, I know why I am not getting any extra units. Thanks.

chief -> (6/29/2002 11:39:39 AM)

OC: I noticed your no spring chicken either, read ur udder post. Hey guy if you have problems this is the forum to be in. You know I read that Omaha and Utah scenarios over and over before I finally saw the light (and answer).

By the way beach landings need lots lots of smoke and engineers to get rid of mines. Even with an FO assigned to and insight of pillboxes etc., they usually miss. If you want a pretty sight blow up a ammo depot....beautiful work.

:D :eek: :cool:

OberstCrow -> (6/29/2002 8:07:16 PM)

Yeah, it's quite a sight, just don't be next door when it blows tho.

OC after you get your feet wet, how's about a PBEM game using one of the new/old scenarios in this game. I'm play ing my first one now against viking 2 and I have played a SP III against McCready so I'm fairly new at this also. Let me know.:) :cool:

OberstCrow -> pbem (7/1/2002 10:27:33 AM)

Sounds like a winner. Been busy all weekend with nephews playing in a 3v3 soccer tourney. Quite a sight, especially in 100 degree weather. Have a grand and glorious 4th.

OC:
OK guy I'll contact you Mon or Tues and maybe we can set something up...Viking 2 tromphed my tail, but good.:D :D :cool:

OberstCrow -> (7/5/2002 9:08:07 AM)

Chief, sorry I haven't replied to your note, life intervened. Soccer, little league, work and trying to get an insurance adjuster to the house. We had a little hail storm, depending on where you lived, the stones ranged from baseball to soccer ball sized. At my place, they were just baseball to softball, kids thought I was crazy to have them put a softball beside the hailstones, until I told them they had something to compare to.

Still want to try PBEM sometime, how do we do this? I read the manual, seems simple enough, but like everything else, until you actually do it, it is all just theory.

Good luck, God Bless and hope you had a great Fourth!

chief -> (7/5/2002 9:27:58 AM)

OC I'll get back to you sometime tomorrow and I'll do just the way they thought me 1 step at a time...see you later.:D

chief -> (7/6/2002 1:03:26 AM)

OC check your PM for an Email..chief
