LokiUK -> Artillery Help (6/27/2002 9:30:25 PM)

First of all i have read the manuel But i cannot seem to get the hang of how to use off-board artillery and aeroplanes :(.
Also i cannot seem to target with on-board artillery :(

i expect that these are really stupid questions but i just cannot figure it out , any detailed help would be greatly appreciated.

You should always buy at least one forward observer. This is a specialist who calls in artillary.

Second if your forward observer, off board artillary, or onboard artillary is out of contact with your HQ you will not be able to use them in that turn. They will be grayed out.

Third a trick is to place at least one of your foward observers right next to your HQ then you will never have an forward observer out of contact. In a large map I like to buy four forward observers. Then I can have one next to my HQ and three positioned in the front of my fighting force.

Fourth. Try to buy onboard artillary that has radio's and place your on board artillary near your HQ so that they can see each other this way your artillary will never be out of contact. Note this can be dangerous for you though if you are counter battery fired.

Fifth. .1 to .2 artillary will fall before your opponent moves. .3 to .4 will fall after your opponenty moves. .5-.9 might land in the turn or it might not (not sure on the reasons). If you plot and get 1.1 that means it will hit before you opponent moves next turn.

Six. Offboard counter batter fire happens automatically.

Seventh To target you have to click on your forward observer or the an HQ unit. If your forward observer is out of contact the next best unit to use is the HQ of the artillary unit. This causes some micromanagment but can not be avoided.

Hope this helps.

Hi LokiUK and welcome onboard, first of all!
You'll find this is a game worthing the time you spend with it, same as people crowding this forum :)

As for yr question: have you played the Artillery tutorial scenario? It is extremely helpful.
IIRC, in the manual should be a step by step on how to play this tutorial, too.

Gary you are a fountian knowledge, from now on I am going buy more FO's

One other thing when preploting your Arty, I like to plot a few in case of a rainy day, I mean that if you sart getting pushed back plot one or two on your side of the map where your opponets is must likely to attack nothing kicks off a counter attack like a arty barrage. My two cents JJ:D

Just remember to CANCEL that barrage if the opponent does not break through.

VikingNo2, I see that we have some of the same strategies. I'd prefer not to have to seek and destroy your extra Forward Obs along with all that Recon you use. :D
