Wonder if this will affect the AGEOD titles carried by Matrixgames?

Crap![:@]

Greybriar -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 7:58:12 PM)

I have a really bad feeling about this. I hope this doesn't mean that AGEOD will fade away until it eventually disappears.

Qwixt -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:06:04 PM)

Say hello to future half-baked buggy releases from AEGOD

Josh -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:11:37 PM)

What I find most amusing about Paradox is that they dare to sell "sprite packs" and "music packs" for HOI3....
Embarassing. First they launch an extremely buggy game, and *then* they have the audacity to sell things afterwards to "ïmprove" the game...IMO the sprites should be in the game in the first place, and not be sold afterwards, and the game should be fixed long time ago.

Widell -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:21:08 PM)

Wow! Another Paradox-basing thread. Why can't we all sit in a virtual ring, take off our socks and tell eachother how crappy Paradox and their games are and that we will immediately uninstall any AGEOD title we may have installed, burn the CD's and destroy all our backups just to protest against the whole unfair crap company and their useless products? Oh, wait, that's what we´re doing. My wrong, sorry for disturbing the ritual [;)]

Terminus -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:21:21 PM)

This assumes that Paradox gives a <expletive deleted> about their customers, which they do not.

I definitely agree that the release state of HoI 3 was ridiculous. However, I don't take issue with sprite packs and the like being sold separately for one reason...they don't affect the game whatsoever. If you want to pay for a little bit of eye candy, you can. If you don't want to, you don't have to, and your game experience is not going to be affected at all.

Lützow -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:37:14 PM)

A good day for AGEOD. Hopefully they get the fund now to develop decent games.

SlickWilhelm -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 8:56:00 PM)

Hopefully Ageod will end up in an autonomous situation within Paradox, like Pixar has within Disney. [sm=innocent0001.gif]

anarchyintheuk -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 9:27:51 PM)

I don't have that much familiarity w/ Paradox games except for HOI but I did w/ AGEOD. One of the best companies in terms of quality (absent the WWI game) and support that I've dealt with. Hope their standards remain as high as they were and the Phillipes are happy.

Adam Parker -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 9:43:49 PM)

Look, though I bought a new PC specifically to be able to play Ageod's Civil War game (I needed the RAM and processing power to be able just to scroll it's map), I have not played the game very much since.

Ageod's games are not pristine bug free things either. It's Napoleon game left me cold enough to ask for a refund and it's WW1 game was the last straw for me.

There are logical synergies between the Paradix and Ageod style and I wish them luck.

But anyone foolish enough to have bought HoI3 after bug-ridden titles 1 and 2, really has no reason to complain. Why would you buy any game whose predessors were broken? And that goes equally for Paradox, Ageod and any other developer.

My .02.

NefariousKoel -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/17/2009 11:04:50 PM)

Paradox is still making games??

Must be just enough suckers out there still giving them money.

Freudian slip or intentional?

On a related topic, with the recent release of the Heir to the Throne update to EUIII, you'd have spent close to £100 on the whole set. If you consider the expansions to be real expansions, adding new content, then fair enough, you possibly think you've got your moneys worth. But, to me, the expansions have been primarily bug fixes with minor tweaks to the game play and the current incarnation, patched up to HttT, is what should have been released initially. If any EUIII fanboys want to argue that point, would they be willing to play each of the original and expansions as individual, stand-alone games - do they really think they have 4 games on their hard drive? No one goes back to older versions after the new expansions come out.

I feel like I've been paying for their ongoing development work to the tune of around £50. And, no, I'm not buying HttT. Jeez, at those prices, WITP:AE seems like a bargain.

***OFF TOPIC RANT START***
I agree Mike Brough.

I also agree with Arctic Blast that add on content is fine and people who want it can buy it...however, the point he was answering to was also valid...the fact they are releasing add on content to a bug ridden game just makes me mad. I would much rather the expense and effort went into better Beta testing or fixing the core game or, at the very least, having a constant presence on the support forum with each and every logged message have at least one post from a Paradox member.

In fact, they should be chucking the addon content out to people who bought their bug ridden game.

I'm not overly fussed. It's sitting on my hard drive and I am currently unable to play it. Support on the forums (outside of one or two forum members) was worse than useless and not one Paradox member of staff showed their face until I said I was finished with the game.

I'll go back to it one day, install it and something on my system somewhere will have changed allowing me to at least get to the game menu...until then, it's a wasted £29.99 for me. No point in brooding over it though...I have plenty of good games to keep me occupied, which is why I dropped it for the time being.

I just think the points are valid....oh, and also NefariousKoel's point as well...I was one of those suckers. Not again though. I can forgive them for a few issues, but the actual state of the game and the lack of Paradox members on the forums (who seem to be keener to moderate and ban people than they do to show their faces in the support forum) has turned me this time. I'll wait like everyone else and pick it up patched out of some bargain bin.
***OFF TOPIC RANT END***

On topic, yes...I think personally it's not the best news I've heard.

NefariousKoel -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/18/2009 8:54:28 PM)

I learned my lesson after the first HOI.  When HOI 2 came out, in what should've just been a patch to the original, and they charged full price for it.. [8|]

Arctic Blast -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/18/2009 9:31:00 PM)

JD : Yep, THAT part I agree with. The idea that they've got people working on sprite packs and not coding fixes is a bit objectionable.

MikeBrough : Why would you go back and play an older version of the game when you have a new one with tweaks and fixes? And yeah, I am planning on grabbed HttT after Christmas is over. I like the new Casus Belli overhaul, I like the improved AI use of diplomacy, I like the Sphere of Influence system and I like the changes to make playing a Merchant Republic more fun. I'd call that stuff pretty significant change.

06 Maestro -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/18/2009 9:51:44 PM)

This is a bit of a surprise. Sometimes these events can be a good thing for both parties. In this case I think Ageod will be the clear winner-regarding sales of their games and likely reduced overhead.

Whatever people may think of PI games, they do have a lot of them and a lot of customers. I just hope they don't "stiff" owners of the original WW1 game when the new Gold version comes out. Something was promised-if reneged on, I will then be done with them. There are hundreds that bought that game well after its release with the knowledge that they would get a very low cost upgrade when the new version was complete. Corporations are suppose to honor existing contracts when they take over another company-we shall see.

In view of the past difficulties both companies have had with buggy releases, there may not be any big improvement in that area, but maybe-just maybe.

Regarding HoI add ons; the sprite pack for HoI 3 are added custom sprites. The game comes with the normal sprites. I do not feel the need to buy extra nation specific custom sprites (I don' care for sprites), but some think it is worth it. HoI 2 was a significantly different game than HoI 1 -not just an add on. The Doomsday and Armageddon were significant improvements, but they charged only 5 bucks for those-seems reasonable to me. It is true that those add ons addressed bugs also, but new features were really what those were about.

If they pulled any dirty schemes along those lines, it appears it was with Rome. I did not buy that game, so I'm just going by what I had read. It had many bugs that were not squashed until the add on. Assuming that is true, that was not very nice of them[:D].

Anyway, I hope the best for the Ageod guy's. They seemed to have a good crew that did their best to give us what we wanted. Hopefully, this will be a good thing for all concerned, including the consumer.

Seems like a valid point, but we really do not know if it is true. It is possible that was outsourced and not paid for before hand. It may also be that the graphics people are not involved with coding. I do not know, so I'm hesitant to hammer them on this issue.

That is if they can get by the gestapo moderators who ban on a whim when trying to get that information. I don't think in the history of Paradox games have I seen so many threads closed and players banned as the HOI III release.

All forums have rules,such as no political discussion,no insulting others etc etc.The people that have been banned were not following the rules of the forum.I like a lot of titles from Matrix as well as PI and I think its very bad taste and kind of childish to constantly bash PI on this forum.Whats the point?Most of the bashers as well dont even own any PI games.Matrix games are also a lot less buggy(but still require patches) on release,but at the same time they are nowhere near the scope and detail of of PI games.An exception might be WitPAE,(which is at patch 8?not sure)but that only covers one theatre of war,not 130 different countries to play,with a map of the entire world.Big differance.

That's my point - few people will go back and play the original EUIII, or the IN version, or Nappy's Ambition, once they've installed HttT. So, you've paid around £100 for your current game. Do you think it's worth that much?

I have a suspicion that Paradix (think I'll stick with that - thanks, Adam) roll out a beta, ask us to test it and then pay full price for the patches, thinly disguised as expansions. In some ways, it's similar to the proposed model that World in Flames was considering (haven't kept up with that game, so I can't be sure) but I also suspect that WiF won't be charging the early purchasers/beta testers full price for the patches as they come out.

lackoo -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/19/2009 9:13:46 AM)

*off*
I only own 4 games from Paradox,bought them via DD.Stopped buying their titles,after they replied my e-mail about the language localisation of their games (digital version).The other reason their  "let's sold more DLC instead of patches or free content" crap.

06 Maestro -> RE: Paradox aquires...AGEOD (12/19/2009 9:32:09 AM)

I just saw this in the Paradox press release;

"“AGEOD will continue to operate as a self-run partner studio, with its own line of products based on the AGE-engine and its own development team while Paradox will assist with our publishing resources and networks,” Wester continued. "

Looks like it will work out well for AGEOD-I hope so.
